A permanent magnet rotor for use on an electrical generator comprises a hub having an outer peripheral surface and an inner peripheral bore centered on an axis. The inner peripheral bore is provided with a screw thread at least over a portion of an axial dimension. Permanent magnets are mounted on the outer peripheral surface of the hub. A containment band is positioned radially outwardly of the magnets, holding the magnets and the hub together. The hub, a generator rotor incorporating the permanent magnet rotor, and a generator incorporating the permanent magnet rotor are also disclosed and claimed in this application.

A method of replacing a generator rotor shaft into a generator includes the steps of moving the rotor shaft such that a central portion supports a main winding section of the generator, and such that smaller diameter portions are supported by bearings, and utilizing a wire that extends through slots in the rotor shaft to connect a rectifier assembly to an exciter rotor.

A rotor for a dynamoelectric machine may include a rotor shaft having a first shaft and a second shaft within the first shaft. The two shafts include discharge orifices for communicating a cooling fluid through the machine. A rotor core of the machine includes a lamination having an annular portion that circumscribes an open center, a plurality of pole portions extending outwardly from the annular portion, and coil winding regions adjacent to the pole portions. One or more channels extend between the open center and the coil winding regions to communicate a cooling fluid. Coil windings of the machine may be at least partially encased in insulators. Each insulator may include a fluid entry orifice located between the insulator ends to communicate a cooling fluid. An end plate of the machine may include fluid discharge outlets for communicating cooling fluid received from the coil windings.

An end plate for a generator includes an end plate generally cylindrical and having a central bore to receive a rotor shaft. The end plate has a radially inner boss and a radially outer boss. The radially outer boss is positioned radially outwardly of windings in a generator. The radially inner boss is positioned radially inwardly of the windings in a generator. A main core assembly, a rotor, and a generator incorporating the end plates are all disclosed and claimed.

End plates for high speed generator applications

A generator rotor shaft includes a shaft body extending through a first axial distance, and being hollow. Spline teeth are formed in an inner bore of the hollow shaft body. The ratio of a distance from one end of the hollow body to a remote axial end of the spline teeth and compared to the overall length of the shaft body is between 0.3 and 0.6. A rotor balance assembly, a generator, and a method of forming a generator rotor shaft are also disclosed and claimed.

A wedge for use in a generator rotor includes a wedge body having a generally triangular shape with flat surfaces, and such that when the wedge is placed in a generator rotor, the flat surfaces will define circumferential extents of the wedge body relative to a rotational axis of the rotor, and said flat surfaces extending to a radially outermost extent of the wedge body. A wedge and winding combination, a generator rotor, a generator and a method all using the wedges are disclosed and claimed.

A rectifier assembly includes first and second housings surrounding a pair of electrical rings. Each of the electrical rings communicates with a pin. Bolts secure a spring to hold diodes against an inner wall of the electrical rings. The first housing includes openings opposed to the bolts to allow access to the bolts for tightening the bolts to hold the spring, and bias the diodes against the inner periphery of the electrical rings. A rotor balance assembly, a generator, and a method of assembling a rectifier assembly are also disclosed and claimed.
