An electronic controller for a variable ratio transmission and an electronically controllable variable ratio transmission including a variator or other CVT are described herein. The electronic controller can be configured to receive input signals indicative of parameters associated with an engine coupled to the transmission. The electronic controller can also receive one or more control inputs. The electronic controller can determine an active range and an active variator mode based on the input signals and control inputs. The electronic controller can control a final drive ratio of the variable ratio transmission by controlling one or more electronic solenoids that control the ratios of one or more portions of the variable ratio transmission.

Controller for variable transmission

A method for power management in an electro-mechanical power-split infinitely variable transmission (eVT) designed to be operated within a designated speed ratio range for vehicular applications. The eVT is comprised of an input shaft coupled to the output shaft of a drive engine to receive power, a drive shaft, two electric machines, and a pair of planetary trains each having a sun member, a ring member, a set of planetary members, and a planet carrier. The eVT further contains one or more torque transfer devices to connect or disconnect members of the planetary trains for transferring torque. The drive shaft is coupled with a final drive of a vehicle for delivering or recapturing power to or from the vehicle drive wheels. The two electric machines are interconnected electronically via a power control unit and are coupled respectively with members of the planetary train. The method of power management in the eVT is selected based on the current speed and torque of the input and drive shafts, and upon the desired operating parameters.

Method and apparatus for power flow management in electro-mechanical transmissions

A control system and method for an EGR valve, particularly in a diesel engine. A processor processes data in feedback control of the position of the valve element to develop from the data a position control signal for setting the extent to which the valve is open. The processing includes processing data corresponding to actual position of the valve and data representing a desired position of the valve to develop a position error signal, processing data that defines actual EGR rate and data representing a desired EGR rate to develop a rate error signal, and processing the position error signal and the rate error signal to develop the position control signal. Emission control system event monitors flag potential error sources in their incipiency to afford opportunity for correction before mandatory logging occurs.

A control system for controlling hydraulic pressure in a dual pass continuously variable transmission includes a pump to provide primary and secondary hydraulic pressures for regulating the pulley ratio and belt tension. A minicomputer regulates the primary and secondary pressures, and a transition mechanism alternates the paths of the primary and secondary pressures between first and second pulleys of the transmission so that the primary pressure is fed to the drive pulley and the secondary pressure is fed to the driven pulley.

Electro-hydraulic control system for a dual-pass continuously variable

A control system for a full time four wheel drive vehicle having a transfer case including a planetary gear differential and an electromagnetically actuated clutch assembly for biasing torque between the front and rear drive wheels in response to signals from the control system. The control system includes apparatus for detecting wheel slip and a device, responsive to the detection of wheel slip for calculating a maximum torque level to be established by the clutch assembly as a function of the total torque delivered to the transfer case and for programming clutch torque application over a predetermined time period and in a manner biasing torque through the differential to eliminate wheel slip.
