Embodiments for monitoring a network are provided. In one embodiment, a method is provided. The method includes collecting data containing information on usage of a network by subscribers. The method further aggregates the data for a first type of usage-based function. Further, the method, simultaneously with the aggregating of the data, samples the data for a second, different type of usage-based function. In other embodiments, systems and machine readable media for monitoring usage of a network are also provided that provide simultaneous generation of data sets for first and second usage-based functions.

An individual telephone line call event buffering system is disclosed which provides backup memory storage for incoming and outgoing call events, including calling line identification (CLID) information in a computer based telephone line monitoring system when the computer or its call processing application software is off-line. The call event buffering system includes a hardware based call processor, distribution controller and memory system, and a software based computer monitoring system, all of which operate in conjunction with a standard personal computer, a standard telephone line, standard telephone line equipment including, but not limited to, a telephone, facsimile, and modem, and standard telephone central office services including, but not limited to, Caller-ID, distinctive ring, call transfer, forwarding and conferencing, voice mail, and visual message waiting.

Individual telephone line call event buffering system

A system is disclosed for completing communication connections from end-users served by a connectionless (broadcast) type system in a manner which allows expansion of the calling area beyond the immediate physical limitations of the broadcast media. The system is based upon a device for mediating between the connectionless system and a connection oriented system. The device creates logical local area networks interconnectable by the connection oriented system. Calling user identification is used in conjunction with call completion data stored in a central memory for controlling all interconnections.
