Tissue mapping and imaging systems are disclosed along with methods for mapping tissue. The systems can include an image recording and mapping system in communication with a manual image scanning device having an imaging probe. The manual image scanning device can be configured to scan a volume of tissue and output at least one scanned image and to electronically receive and record the at least one scanned image. The image recording and mapping system can be further configured to construct an idealized tissue map from the at least one scanned image. The image recording and mapping system can also include a position tracking system configured to detect and track the position of the imaging probe and provide location identifier information for the at least one scanned image. The idealized tissue map can be an idealized depiction of an anatomy. The idealized tissue map can include references points.

Systems and methods for tissue mapping

A method and system for two and three dimensional mapping of tissue density and/or structural changes from image data and/or spatial reflected or transmitted signal maps, and correlating the maps to changes in collagen density. The method and system includes the steps of: receiving an image or spatial maps of acoustic-derived RF signal data from tissue comprised of multiple pixels, segregating the image into groups of pixels, each group of pixels having characteristics within a defined class, establishing a baseline set of classes corresponding to initial conditions of the imaged/mapped tissue, measuring a differential in the set of classes for a group of pixels, the differential corresponding to a change in pixel values for the group of pixels, correlating said measured differential to a density change for the tissue corresponding to the group of pixels, and overlaying an indication of collagen density over the tissue image or mapped signal responses correlated with thermal dose indicating a change in collagen density for the tissue.

Total ammoniacal concentration (TAC) in blood is measured and displayed on a repetitive basis by a controller driven sensor arrangement which may be utilized either with a catheter structure or with a bypass system. The catheter based sensors may be employed with a peripheral region of the vascular system of the body. Repetitive measurements are carried out and these measurements are subjected to a moving average filtering procedure, whereupon the filtered TAC values are displayed numerically and graphically. The controller functions to compute the rate-of-rise of TAC and compares that value with a threshold rate-of-rise valuation which is inputted by the practitioner. Threshold values for TAC also may be inputted and the system not only provides alarm warnings for threshold excursions in TAC above threshold or excursions in rate-of-rise of TAC above threshold but also provides a visual cuing as a warning that TAC is elevating from one filtered measurement to the next.

Monitoring of total ammoniacal concentration in blood

Cardiac output is measured utilizing a catheter in conjunction with the indicator dilution technique. Non-thermal analyte-containing fluid is used as the injectate. This fluid is biocompatible with and metabolizable within the body of the patient. An analyte concentration sensor is mounted upon the catheter and located downstream within the bloodstream from the port from which the analyte-containing fluid is expressed. Because of the matching of rapid concentration sensor response with an analyte-containing fluid which is metabolizable, the measurement of cardiac output may be carried out as often as about one to three minutes in conjunction with an infusion interval substantially less than the measurement frequency interval. The analyte-containing fluids are selected from a group consisting of ammoniacal fluid, heparin, ethanol, a carbon dioxide releasing fluid, glucose, and anesthesia agent. The system performs in conjunction with a microprocessor-driven controller which automates the measurement procedure and provides a display of cardiac output and various cardiovascular parameters.

Cardiac output measurement with metabolizable analyte containing fluid

A radio frequency tissue ablation apparatus for use on a horizontal support surface in connection with a medical procedure on a patient. A portable carrying case having a carrying handle is provided and is adapted to rest upon a horizontal surface. The portable carrying case has a cover with an inner surface and is movable between a generally vertical open position and a generally horizontal closed position when the portable carrying case is resting on the horizontal support surface. The portable carrying case has a keyboard and a primary display panel disposed adjacent the keyboard under the cover when the cover is in a closed position and is accessible visually and physically when the cover is in an open position. The primary display panel includes a plurality of groups of numerical indicia and a plurality of switches associated with at least certain of the groups of numerical indicia for establishing criteria for those certain groups of numerical indicia. The primary display panel includes an additional switch for selecting automatic or manual operation. A graphic display panel is carried by the inner surface of the cover. Electrical circuitry, including a radio frequency generator and a control computer, is disposed within the portable carrying case and is coupled to the keyboard, the primary display panel and the graphic display panel. The portable carrying case has a plurality of ports accessible externally in communication with the electrical circuitry in the portable carrying case. A probe is coupled to one of the ports carrying an electrode and is adapted to penetrate tissue.
