Examples are disclosed that relate to computing devices, head-mounted display devices and methods for remote collaborations. In one example a computing device receives a first spatial mapping of a first environment and a second spatial mapping of a second environment. The computing device determines that a first volumetric space in the first environment and a second volumetric space in the second environment each satisfy at least one collaboration criterion. Based on this determination, an indication of the first volumetric space is displayed by a first display device in the first environment, and an indication of the second volumetric space is displayed by a second display device in the second environment.

Remote collaborations with volumetric space indications

A head-mounted display device includes a see-though display providing both eyes of a user with a view of a physical object, a processor, and a non-volatile storage device holding instructions executable by the processor to: display an image that corresponds to the physical object to a first eye of the user at an offset to the physical object; display blocking light to a second eye of the user; in response to alignment user input, move a position of the image relative to the physical object; in response to completion user input, determine the inter-pupillary distance of the user; and calibrate the head-mounted display device based on the inter-pupillary distance.

Determining inter-pupillary distance

A method of and system for visualizing a sound source is disclosed. The method may include analyzing an audio signal received by a sound transducer to determine a positional direction of the sound source, determining whether the positional direction of the sound source falls outside a field of view of a user, and in response to determining that the positional direction of the sound source falls outside the field of view of the user, rendering on a display unit a visual representation of the sound source. The visual representation of the source is rendered on a virtual surface at a location within the field of view of the user, the location corresponding to at least one of a distance of the source from the user and a positional direction of the source with respect to the user.

Localization and visualization of sound

A head-mounted display device is disclosed that includes an at least partially see-though display, a processor, and a non-volatile storage device holding instructions executable by the processor to: select an image that corresponds to a physical object viewable by the user; display the image at a perceived offset to the physical object; in response to alignment user input, move a perceived position of the image relative to the physical object; output an instruction to provide completion user input when the image appears to align with the physical object; when the completion user input is received, determine the inter-pupillary distance of the user; and calibrate the head mounted display device based on the inter-pupillary distance.

A head mounted display device is provided that includes a display device, a camera device, an input device, and a processor. The processor is configured to store a database of physical objects and virtual objects that have been associated with one or more semantic tags. The processor is further configured to receive a natural language input from a user via the input device and perform semantic processing on the natural language input to determine a user specified operation and identify one or more semantic tags indicated by the natural language input. The processor is further configured to select a target virtual object and a target physical object based on the identified one or more semantic tags, perform the determined user specified operation on the target virtual object based on the target physical object, and display the target virtual object at a physical location associated with the target physical object.

Semantically tagged virtual and physical objects

Examples are disclosed that relate to displaying lists on augmented reality and virtual reality display devices in such a manner as to avoid list occlusion and resulting user input errors. One disclosed example provides a computing device including an image sensor, a display device, a logic device configured to execute instructions, and a storage device comprising instructions executable by the logic device. The instructions are executable to generate a representation of the list, compare the representation of the list to a topology of a three-dimensional environment viewable via the display device to determine whether the representation of the list intersects any object in the topology, and if the representation of the list intersects an object in the topology of the three-dimensional environment, then adjust one or more of a position and orientation of each of one or more items of the list to adapt to the object in the topology.
