Controlled-environment facility resident behavioral and/or health monitoring may employ controlled-environment facility resident wearables each having a band configured to be affixed around a portion of a controlled-environment facility resident, irremovable by the resident and may include sensor(s) configured to measure biometric(s) of the controlled-environment facility resident and one or more physical parameter(s) experienced by the wearable, with a transmitter transmitting the biometric(s) and/or the physical parameter(s) to a controlled-environment facility management system. The controlled-environment facility management system may predetermine one or more normal input levels of the biometric(s) and/or physical parameter(s), receive the transmitted biometric(s) and/or physical parameter(s), determine whether received biometric(s) and/or physical parameter(s) rises above, or falls below, the predetermined normal input level(s), and alert controlled-environment facility personnel and/or law enforcement when received physical parameter(s) and/or received biometric(s) rise above or fall below the predetermined normal input level(s).

Controlled-environment facility resident wearables and systems and methods for use

A communication system comprises a processing system configured to support data, voice and video communications. A docking station is coupled to the processing system and is configured to provide power and data connections to a personal computer wireless device. The personal computer wireless device is configured to provide power, data, and analog connections. The docking station includes a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone, such as a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), phone. The docking station may include a keypad configured to initiate, or otherwise enable, VoIP phone call functions. The docking station is coupled to the processing system over at least one pair of low-voltage wires having an electrical current sufficient to power the personal computer wireless device. The pair(s) of low-voltage wires may provide sufficient electrical current to charge a battery in the personal computer wireless device.

A communication system comprising a processing system is configured to support data, voice and video communications. A docking station is coupled to the processing system and is configured to provide power and data connections to a personal computer wireless device. The personal computer wireless device is configured to provide power, data, and analog connections. The docking station may act as a controlled-environment facility communication terminal, providing communication functionality to a user employing an integral, solid-surface keypad defined in, and by, a surface of the docking station's housing, when the personal computer wireless device is not held in the docking station. The docking station is coupled to the processing system over at least one pair of low-voltage wires having an electrical current sufficient to power the personal computer wireless device. The pair(s) of low-voltage wires may provide sufficient electrical current to charge a battery in the personal computer wireless device.

Video communications of residents of a controlled-environment facility are monitored to detect instances of inappropriate behavior within the video, such as nudity. Residents may participate in live video visitation sessions with non-residents. Video recordings are generated for each video feed of the live video visitation. During the live video visitation, indications of inappropriate behavior displayed in the live video are detected. If indications of inappropriate behavior are detected in the live video, the recorded video is annotated to specify the locations of the detected indications in the recording. Upon completion of the video visitation session, post-processing of the recorded video detects additional indications of inappropriate behavior. The additional indications may be detected at proximal locations to the annotations and may be detected based on sampling frames of the recording to detect changes in the occurrence of pixels having a skin tone color.

Controlled-environment facility video communications monitoring system

Controlled-environment facility contraband wireless communication device detection uses one or more controlled-environment facility communication and/or media devices that each include a radio frequency detection mechanism configured to detect presence of electromagnetic energy emissions in one or more frequency bands reserved for wireless communication by wireless communication devices. Each controlled-environment facility communication and/or media device reports detection of the presence of electromagnetic energy emissions in one or more frequency bands reserved for wireless communication by wireless communication devices to an investigative data aggregation and analysis system. The location of the reporting device(s) and/or signal strength of the emission(s) may be used by the investigative data aggregation and analysis system to determine a location, within the controlled-environment facility, of a contraband wireless communication device emitting the electromagnetic energy emissions.

Embodiments provide methods and systems for regulating the use of virtual reality environments provided to residents of controlled-environment facilities. In response to a request for virtual reality programs from an inmate, the privilege status of the inmate is used to determine the available virtual environments in which the inmate may participate. The participation of the inmate within a virtual reality session may be restricted based on the privilege status of the inmate. Any limitations on an inmate's participation within an approved virtual environment may be enforced by restricting the behavior of an avatar representing the inmate within the virtual environment. The privilege status of inmates may be used to enforce restrictions that prohibit contact between certain inmates or certain classifications of inmates. The participation of inmates may be restricted and terminated based on a measured physiological responses to the inmate's participation in a virtual environment.

Systems and methods for communicating using both radio frequency (RF) communication and light communication (LC) are disclosed. An example device comprises radio frequency communication circuitry, a light communication transmitter; a light communication receiver; a processor for controlling the device according to executable code; and memory for storing data and executable code, wherein the executable code comprises instructions for causing the processor to establish RF communication with an RF access point using the RF communication circuitry; and to establish LC communication with an LC access point using the LC transmitter, the LC receiver, or both.

A method for accessing the communication system comprises connecting a personal computer wireless device to a docking station using light communication and identifying a current location of the personal computer wireless device based upon LC with the docking station or an LC access point. One or more selected applications may be enabled or disabled on the personal computer wireless device based upon the current location.

Residents may participate in live video visitation sessions with non-residents. Video recordings are generated for each video feed of the live video visitation. During the live video visitation, indications of non-verbal communications displayed in the live video are detected. If indications of non-verbal communications are detected in the live video, the recorded video is annotated to specify the locations of the detected indications in the recording. Upon completion of the video visitation session, post-processing of the recorded video detects additional indications of displayed non-verbal communication. The additional indications may be detected at proximal locations to the annotations and may be detected based on sampling frames of the recording to detect changes in the color balance indicating the display of a message surface.

Systems and methods, which can provide for an indication of a privileged communication, are provided. A method, according to an embodiment, uses at least one processor of a communication server device. Addressee information of one or more addressee(s) of a communication, sender information of a sender of the communication, or a combination thereof is received. The sender information, the addressee information, or a combination thereof is compared to registered user information maintained in a database. The registered user information corresponds to registered users to or from whom privileged communications may be sent or received. An indication that the communication is privileged is provided when the sender information, the addressee information, or the combination thereof corresponds to respective registered user information maintained in the database.

A communication device may be assigned to a resident of a controlled-environment facility. A data network interface of the resident device establishes a connection with a resident network via one or more network access points located within the facility. A tracking network interface of the resident device transmits location tracking signals received by location tracking devices located within the facility. The resident device connects with the resident network via the data network interface in providing services to the resident. During intervals when the resident device is not connected to the resident network via the data network interface, tracking network interface is used to transmit the location tracking signals.

Inbound call processing systems and methods for processing inbound calls to controlled-environment facility resident media and/or communications devices employ an inbound resident call server configured to host inbound calling accounts established by non-residents, receive inbound calls from the non-residents, route the inbound calls to an authenticating server, confirm that the resident device is active, and connect the inbound resident call system with the resident device if active or inform the non-resident the resident is not available if not. The inbound resident call server also connects the non-resident inbound call with the resident device if the non-resident is associated with the inbound calling account, the inbound calling account is associated with an address identifier of the resident device and the resident's personal identification number is associated with the address identifier of the resident device, all of which may be authenticated by the authenticating server.
