An electromagnetic device is provided and includes a stator defining a bore, a rotor rotatable within the stator bore and having permanent magnetic elements disposed about an outer surface thereof to define a series of magnetic poles, power coils configured to generate a power current as a first portion of the magnetic poles pass each of the power coils due to rotor rotation and sense coils configured to generate a sense current as a second portion of the magnetic poles pass each of the sense coils due to the rotor rotation.

Electromagnetic device

A 'Y'-shaped transformer includes a 'Y' shaped magnetic core that includes a top portion and a bottom portion. The top portion and the bottom portion both include a plurality of &#x201c;Y&#x201d;-shaped laminates stacked on top of one another and bent to form a plurality of core limbs. A plurality of input windings are wound around each of the plurality of core limbs. A plurality of output windings wound are wound around each of the plurality of core limbs.

Laminated 'Y'-core transformer

A sensor detects skewed adjacent movable component. The sensor may be used to detect harmful skews of aircraft control surfaces, such as slats or flaps on aircraft wings, which may be caused by an actuator disconnection from the surface it drives. Harmful skew, which is a relative asymmetrical motion of control surfaces beyond a predetermined limit, is detected by the sensor, but the relatively smaller harmless skew caused by normal flight is ignored. The sensor comprises first and second arms connected to a common base that may be attached to a first control surface. A constraining means such as a mechanical fuse holds the arms together while a separating means such as a spring exerts a separating force on the arms when the fuse breaks. A switching means is integral to the two arms. A striker pin on a second control surface strikes the first or second sensor arm when the relative motion between the control surfaces exceeds a certain predetermined limit. The force of the striker pin breaks the constraining means at a predetermined tension. Then the switching means operates to provide an indication that the arms have been opened.

Method and apparatus for sensing skews and disconnects of adjacent movable components

A modular coolant manifold for use with a power electronics device having a heat sink is disclosed. The modular coolant manifold comprises a base unit having an inlet side, an outlet side, and a pair of interconnecting sidewalls. A portion of the base unit defines a recess adapted to receive the heat sink of the electronics device. The base unit includes an internal coolant passage extending between an inlet port defined in the inlet side and an outlet port defined in the outlet side. The coolant passage is in flow communication with the recess. An inlet manifold is adapted for attachment to the base unit inlet side. The inlet manifold includes an inlet port, a transfer port, and a coolant passage interconnecting the inlet port and the transfer port. The inlet manifold transfer port is in flow communication with the base inlet port. An outlet manifold is adapted for attachment to the base unit outlet side. The outlet manifold includes a transfer port, an outlet port, and a coolant passage interconnecting the transfer port and the outlet port. The outlet manifold transfer port is in flow communication with the base unit outlet port. Accordingly, a coolant medium may be communicated through the recess to extract heat from the heat sink.

Modular coolant manifold for use with power electronics devices having integrated coolers

A power electronics device incorporating a modular packaging concept and having an integrated device cooler is disclosed. A modular power electronics die cooler is designed for use with a coolant manifold adapted to circulate a coolant medium past a mounting receptacle. The modular power electronics die cooler comprises a base unit adapted for mounting to the manifold, with the base unit having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion includes a plurality of sidewalls defining an enclosure, and the lower portion includes a heat sink and is adapted for insertion in the manifold receptacle. At least one electronic component is mounted within the enclosure. Accordingly, upon mounting the base unit to the manifold, the heat sink is positioned in the coolant medium and thereby dissipates heat produced by the electronic component.
