A soda-lime-silica glass that has a composition comprising 60-80 wt % SiO; 8-18 wt % NaO; 5-15 wt % CaO; 0-3 wt % AlO; 0.0010-0.050 wt % silver expressed as AgO; and 0.005-0.30 wt % bismuth expressed as BiOis disclosed. Light-scattering silver colloids are dispersed throughout the soda-lime-silica glass to provide the glass with a yellow coloration. The soda-lime-silica glass may be in the form of a body that provides a shape of a container that defines an internal containment space. The body of such a container includes a base, a mouth that defines an opening to the internal containment space, and a wall that externs from the base to the mouth. A method of making a glass container that exhibits a yellow coloration is also disclosed.

Yellow soda-lime-silica glass

A product includes a container, a photosensitive material carried by the container and responsive to ultraviolet light, and a UV protector carried by the container to protect the photosensitive material from exposure to UV light. A method of producing a food or beverage container includes applying a photochromic material to a food or beverage container that is responsive to ultraviolet (UV) light so as to darken upon exposure thereto, and protecting at least a portion of the photochromic material from exposure to UV light.

A method of making a glass-ceramic article includes synthesizing a feedstock gel that includes a base oxide network comprising NaO, CaO, and SiO, in which a molar ratio of NaO:CaO:SiOin the gel is 1:2:3, and then converting the feedstock gel into a glass-ceramic article such as a container or a partially-formed container. The conversion of the feedstock gel into a glass-ceramic container may be performed at a temperature that does not exceed 900&#xb0; C. and may include the steps of pressing the feedstock gel into a compressed solid green-body, sintering the green-body into a solid monolithic body of a glass-ceramic material, deforming the solid monolithic glass-ceramic body into a glass-ceramic preform, and cooling the preform. A glass-ceramic article having a glass-ceramic material that has a molar ratio of NaO:CaO:SiOthat is 1:2:3 is also disclosed.

Feedstock gel and method of making glass-ceramic articles from the feedstock gel

A soda-lime-silica glass-ceramic article having an amorphous matrix phase and a crystalline phase is disclosed along with a method of manufacturing a soda-lime-silica glass-ceramic article from a parent glass composition comprising 47-63 mol % SiO, 15-22 mol % NaO, and 18-36 mol % CaO. The crystalline phase of the glass-ceramic article has a higher concentration of sodium (Na) than that of the amorphous matrix phase.

A method of making a hollow container-shaped glass article composed of soda-lime-silica glass includes forming a particulate feedstock comprised of pulverized soda-lime-silica cullet particles into a hollow monolithic glass container preform without melting the cullet particles. The hollow monolithic glass container preform has a container shape that includes a wall defining an interior containment space and an opening to the interior containment space and, upon formation, has a temperature above the glass transition temperature of the soda-lime-silica glass. The hollow monolithic glass container preform is eventually cooled into a hollow, amorphous soda-lime-silica glass article, such as a partially-formed container or a finished container, that retains the previously-established container shape.

Method of manufacturing a hollow glass article having a container shape

A glass precursor gel and a method of making a glass product from the glass precursor gel are disclosed. The glass precursor gel includes a bulk amorphous oxide-based matrix that is homogeneously chemically mixed and includes 30 mol % to 90 wt. % silica and at least one of the following: (A) 0.1 mol % to 25 mol % of one or more alkali oxides in sum total, (B) 0.1 mol % to 25 mol % of one or more alkaline earth oxides in sum total, (C) 1 mol % to 20 mol % boric oxide, (D) 5 mol % to 80 mol % lead oxide, or (E) 0.1 mol % to 10 mol % aluminum oxide. A method of making a glass product from the glass precursor gel involves obtaining the glass precursor gel, melting the glass precursor gel into molten glass, and forming the molten glass into a glass product.

Glass precursor gel

A glass foam and methods of producing the same are disclosed. The glass foam is produced from a dried glass precursor gel having nanometer-sized pores and a bulk amorphous oxide-based matrix with an inorganic network of primary constituent oxides. One method includes obtaining the dried glass precursor gel, heating the dried glass precursor gel to a temperature below the melting point of the gel, maintaining the temperature for a time sufficient to expand the dried glass precursor gel, and expanding the dried glass precursor gel to form the glass foam.

A dried glass precursor gel and methods of depositing a powderized or wire form of the dried glass precursor gel to form a glass substrate and/or coating are disclosed. The dried glass precursor gel contains a bulk amorphous oxide-based matrix of primary constituent oxides. One method includes obtaining the dried glass precursor gel, forming a powder or wire from the dried glass precursor gel, melting the powder with a gas stream to form molten droplets, and depositing the molten droplets onto a mold or similar target substrate.

A glass precursor gel and methods of melting the glass precursor gel are disclosed. The glass precursor gel contains a bulk amorphous oxide-based matrix that contains one or more synthesis byproducts. One method includes obtaining the glass precursor gel with the bulk amorphous oxide-based matrix having one or more synthesis byproducts, exposing the glass precursor gel to microwave radiation, and heating and/or melting the glass precursor gel into a molten glass with the microwave radiation by way of the one or more synthesis byproducts.

A product includes a container having an interior surface, an exterior surface, and a lip between the interior and exterior surfaces, and a wick having a first end disposed inside the container, a second end disposed outside of the container, and an intermediate portion extending across the lip of the container. A package may include the product, a liquid product carried within the container, and a closure coupled to the container to squeeze the wick to interrupt flow of the liquid product therethrough.
