A computer-implemented method and system for facilitating a sending of a gift from a first machine to a second machine may include a processor of a computer server reviewing a first list of one or more names of people maintained in a computer database. The processor may review context information related to the one or more names to determine if a moment exists for sending a gift from a first machine to a second machine. Content providers may also request one or more gifts to be identified when a second machine is proximate to a content provider who may fulfill a gift.

Method and system for connecting and facilitating the machine-to-machine delivery of a gift that may or may not have monetary value

A method and system are described for determining a location of a consumer within a retail establishment, or other geographical proximity. The method and system use a portable computing device ('PCD') such as, but not limited to, a mobile phone. The system and method may leverage existing infrastructure, such as wireless routers, to assist the PCD and a remote server in communication with the PCD to determine a location of a consumer in possession of the PCD within a retail location. The system may comprise a PCD running a geo-network discovery ('GND') module, a server running a service set identifier (&#x201c;SSID&#x201d;) verification and rules (&#x201c;V/R&#x201d;) module, a telecommunications network, and a wireless router configured to broadcast a unique SSID.

A system and method for providing a personalized shopping experience with a portable computing device ('PCD') are described. The system and method may include checking-in PCD consumers upon entering an establishment of a merchant. The checking-in of the PCD consumer may include verifying credentials for gaining access to a central mobile payment controller and receiving a merchant identifier corresponding to a merchant from a computer communication's network. Next, a scan of a machine-readable code associated with at least one of a good and a service may be received. Information associated with the machine-readable code may be retrieved from a database. Subsequently, a personalized price for the at least one good or service may be determined by applying one or more rules. The personalized price may be transmitted over a computer communications network to the portable computing device for display to the PCD consumer.

A system and method for providing a personalized shopping experience with a portable computing device ('PCD') are described. A system and method includes displaying a prompt on a display device of a first computing device to input information for an e-commerce session. Next, a selection for completing the e-commerce session by an information transfer is received. A machine-readable code that captures data corresponding to the e-commerce session, such as a web session identifier, is generated by the first computing device. The machine-readable code is made available for scanning by the first computing device. A message derived from the machine-readable and produced by a second computing device that scans the machine-readable code is received over a computer network. In response to receiving the message derived from the machine-readable code, information is transferred from a secure server to the e-commerce session. Before any information is transferred from the secure server to the e-commerce session, a prompt may be displayed on the second computing device requesting authorization for the transfer.
