A hybrid firmware-first/operating-system-first error handling system includes a Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) subsystem coupled to a processing system. The BIOS subsystem begins an initialization process for a computing device and, in response, configures the processing system to perform processing system firmware-first error handling operations and, for any errors that are detected during at least a portion of the initialization process, performs BIOS firmware-first error handling operations. During the initialization process, the BIOS subsystem determines that an operating system provided by the processing system is configured to perform error handling and, in response, disables the performance of processing system firmware-first error handling operations by the processing system, and instructs the operating system to perform operating-system-first error handling operations such that the operating system performs the operating-system-first error handling operations for any errors that are detected during runtime of the computing device.

Hybrid firmware-first/operating-system-first error handling system

An Open Compute Project (OCP) mezzanine riser with repurposed connectivity to allow for increased PCIe card count on a motherboard server. The OCP mezzanine riser includes at least one OCP connector, where the OCP connectors are mounted on the bottom of the mezzanine riser card and mate with at least one of three OCP connection points that are mounted on a server motherboard. Further, the OCP mezzanine riser includes one or more PCIe lanes mounted on the top of the mezzanine riser card, where a PCIe card may be connected to the one or more PCIe lanes of the mezzanine riser.

A power supply unit (PSU) performs a PSU fault diagnosis using a PSU fault detection module. The PSU fault detection module detects a diagnostic trigger event and initiates a series of checks of selected sub-systems. The PSU fault detection module determines whether the trigger event occurred while the PSU was connected within an information handling system (IHS) or physically removed from the IHS. If the trigger event occurred while the PSU was connected within an information handling system (IHS), the PSU fault detection module electrically isolates the PSU from the IHS using an ORing device, which blocks current flowing into the PSU. The PSU fault detection module determines whether a short circuit exists within the electrically isolated PSU. If a short circuit is identified, the PSU fault detection module determines that the PSU is not functioning properly and provides a notification of a malfunction of the PSU.

A method may include, receiving, by a controller integral to a chassis, a user request to apply a switch configuration. The method may also include communicating from the controller to a remote access controller (RAC) integral to at least one module disposed in a plurality of slots of the chassis an indication that a user has requested application of a switch configuration. The method may further include receiving at the controller, in response to the indication, a request to download a switch configuration file from the controller to the RAC. The method may additionally include transferring from the controller, in response to the request to download the switch configuration file, the switch configuration file to the RAC such that the RAC applies parameters set forth in the switch configuration file in order to configure an in-band switch associated with the module comprising the RAC.

Methods and systems for network switch configuration for a modular component carrying one or more information handling systems

An information handling system is set forth which includes a fully connected 4S topology that can also be populated with two processors and two link modules (e.g., two passive 'slugs') to implement a fully connected 2S topology. More specifically, the link module is a printed circuit board that implements a loopback connection between certain links of the architecture. In certain embodiment, the link module includes no electrical components. The link module merely includes a set of electrical connections (e.g., copper traces) connecting pads (e.g., gold plated pads) on a thick printed circuit board (PCB) dielectric material that is shaped to fit the processor socket. The link module is used to carry user data when the information handling system is configured in a 2S topology. The link module includes proper lane assignment that allows the module to be passive without performance reduction.

Optimized two-socket/four-socket server architecture

An information handling system (IHS) is disclosed providing a power supply operable to provide an output current to the IHS during power initiation. The IHS may also include a first power component associated with a first power stage wherein the first power stage may have a first current threshold. Furthermore, the IHS may include a power control logic coupled to the power supply and the first power component. As such, the power control logic may be operable to communicate the first power stage to the power supply, and if the output current does not exceed the first current threshold during the first power stage, the power control logic may be operable to communicate a second power stage having a second current threshold to the power supply.

Methods and systems for initiating power to an information handling system

A system and method for using a shared bus to control a keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) output is disclosed. The system may include a mid-plane having a video bus. At least one server module, including a video output module, may be placed in communications with the video bus. The video output module may transmit a video signal over the bus and receives a control signal over the bus. A management module may also be placed in communications with the video bus. The management module may receive the video signal from the server module via the bus and provide a control signal through the video bus to each server module. The control signal may activate or deactivate the video output module on each server module.

System and method for using a shared bus for video communications

A system and method of SCSI and SAS hardware validation is disclosed. In one aspect, the present disclosure teaches a method of hardware validation in an information handling system including scanning an interconnection for hardware devices attached to the interconnection in an information handling system. The method further including determining compatibility of each hardware device place on the interconnection based on a supported device information matrix and a location of the hardware device in the information handling system. The method further including displaying a validation notification to a user for possible compatibility issues based on the determination.

A modular information handling system includes a KVM management card. The KVM management card manages KVM communication with associated blade servers and allows access to KVM signals from each of the associated blade server through a VGA connector, a first PS2 connector and a second PS2 connector.

Blade server adapter card

A blade server system includes multiple blade servers at a common location coupled to a concentrator. The concentrator connects the blade servers to a remote terminal. Upon command from the remote terminal, the concentrator connects a particular one of the blade servers to the remote terminal. Each blade server senses when it is newly connected to the remote terminal and upon detection of such a new connection, a complete screen refresh is sent by the newly connected blade server to the remote terminal. In this manner, contamination of the display of the remote terminal by leftover text from a prior connected blade server is advantageously avoided.

Apparatus and method for refreshing a terminal display in a multiple information handling system environment

A system for externally controlling keyboard video monitor (KVM) functions within a server blade architecture. The system includes an external KVM controller and a server blade chassis coupled to the external KVM controller. The server blade chassis includes a server blade and a management module coupled to the server blade. The management module includes an integrated KVM module. The integrated KVM module detects whether the external KVM controller is coupled to the server blade chassis. When the external KVM controller is coupled to the server blade chassis, the integrated KVM module functions as a relay agent between the external KVM controller and the server blade. When the external KVM controller is not coupled to the server blade chassis, the integrated KVM module functions as a master KVM controller for the server blade chassis.
