In accordance with the invention, there is a method of forming a toner. The method can include blending two or more colorants to form a sample toner and forming a sample color specimen including a printed image comprising the sample toner. The method can further include comparing spectral distribution curves of the sample color specimen with that of a target color specimen including a target color and repeating the disclosed steps until acquiring a desired spectral match between the sample toner and the target color.

Process for producing dry ink colorants that will reduce metamerism

Dual pigment compositions are provided that include a first pigment based upon a xanthene dye and a second pigment based upon a monoazo dye. The pigment compositions of the present disclosure may be combined with a binder resin to form a toner, in embodiments a magenta toner.

A two dispenser system is used to replenish developer and toner in an electrostatic marking system. This two dispenser system replenishes toner and developer in a more accurate way since each of the dispensers are individually controlled and operated. Better quality prints and less waste is provided over extended usage periods.

Particles, preferably toner particles comprised of at least binder and colorant, are described that include a doped conductive polymer material as a surface additive on the external surface of the particle. The presence of the doped external conductive polymer material enables the particles to retain a substantially uniform charge distribution over the surface of the particles over time, and also enables appropriate control over the triboelectric (tribo) properties of a developer. Also described are developers comprised of such particles in admixture with carrier particles, and methods of making the particles and developers.

A toner composition includes a binder, a colorant, and a surface additive package including a polydimethylsiloxane surface treated silica, a surface treated titania, and calcium sterate. The toner composition provides improved triboelectric charging properties.

A process for preparing toner compositions using a dry pigment is provided. The process comprises combining a base toner resin composition, a dry pigment, and dispersion agent in a one step process, without the need any pre-processing of the pigments such as by, for example, flushing. The process may also comprise preparing the toners via an extrusion process utilizing a screw having a configuration designated herein as a Type C screw.

The present invention relates to utilizing memory provided in a machine replaceable sub-assembly to be a medium of distribution for software code updates to that machine relating as to how that machine should operate. In one alternative, there is provided a method for operating a machine employing the steps of providing a replaceable sub-assembly separable from the machine, the replaceable sub-assembly further comprising a wireless interface and a memory in which is stored software code of executable instructions. The method further provides communicating via the wireless interface with the replaceable sub-assembly to store software code of executable instructions relating to the operation of the machine into the memory. The method then provides placing the replaceable sub-assembly into the machine, reading the memory, placing the stored software code of executable instructions into the machine as new machine software code, and then operating the machine in accordance with the new software code. In this way, the replaceable sub-assembly becomes the medium for the machine's software updates.

An apparatus comprised of a charging component, a development component, a transport component, a photoconductive component, and a fusing component, and wherein the development component contains a toner comprising at least one binder in an optional amount of from about 85 to about 99 percent by weight, at least one colorant in an optional amount of from about 0.5 to about 15 percent by weight, and calcium stearate in an optional amount of from about 0.05 to about 2 percent by weight and wherein following triboelectric contact with carrier particles, the toner has a charge Q measured in femtocoulombs per particle diameter D measured in microns (Q/D) of from about &#x2212;0.1 to about &#x2212;1 fC/&#x3bc;m with a variation during development of from about 0 to about 0.25 fC/&#x3bc;m and wherein the distribution is substantially unimodal and possesses a peak width of from about 0.1 fC/&#x3bc;m to about 0.5 fC/&#x3bc;m and the toner possesses a charge to mass M, as measured in grams, ratio (Q/M) of from about &#x2212;25 to about &#x2212;70 &#x3bc;C/gram with variation of Q/M during development of from about 0 to about 15 &#x3bc;C/gram.

The present invention relates to a high intensity blending apparatus, particularly for blending operations designed to cause additive materials to become affixed to the surface of base particles. More particularly, the proposed invention relates to an improved blending tool for producing surface modifications to electrophotographic and related toner particles. The tool comprises a shank having riser members at each end, such risers being angled to the axis of the shank between 10 and 16 degrees.

The present invention relates to utilizing memory provided in a machine replaceable sub-assembly to be one medium of distribution for software code updates to that machine relating as to how that machine should use that replaceable sub-assembly. In one embodiment, there is provided a replaceable sub-assembly for use in a machine at various setpoints including a memory and further including upgraded executable instruction suitable for directing the machine to use the replaceable sub-assembly with different setpoints, where the upgraded executable instruction is stored in the memory. In this way, the replaceable sub-assembly becomes the medium for it's own or another's software updates.
