A refrigeration system includes a compressor for compressing a refrigerant, a condenser for cooling the refrigerant, an evaporator for heating the refrigerant, and a lubrication system for providing a lubricant mist to a movable component of the compressor. The lubrication system includes an ejector arranged in fluid communication with the compressor and the evaporator, wherein the lubricant mist is carried by the refrigerant to the movable component.

Enhanced method of lubrication for refrigeration compressors

A compressor () comprises: a housing assembly () having a plurality of ports including a suction port () and a discharge port (); a male rotor () mounted for rotation about an axis (); a female rotor () enmeshed with the male rotor and mounted in the housing for rotation about an axis () for drawing a flow from the suction port, compressing the flow, and discharging the compressed flow through the discharge port. The housing assembly comprises: a motor case (); and a cover () bearing the suction port. The cover comprises a unitary piece forming: a mounting portion () mounted to an adjacent end () of the motor case, said adjacent end being large enough to pass the motor; and a fitting portion () extending to a rim () at the suction port and bearing an external groove ().

Refrigeration compressor fittings

In one aspect, a refrigeration system is provided. The refrigeration system includes a compressor coupled to a variable frequency drive (VFD), a condenser, an evaporator, an oil separator, and an oil conditioning circuit. The oil conditioning circuit is thermally coupled to the VFD and configured to heat oil from the oil separator with heat produced by the VFD.

A dual refrigeration circuit, watercooled chiller has its respective evaporators and condensers interconnected by waterboxes, with each waterbox having an inlet flow and outlet flow connection, and with three passages interconnected with the respective evaporators/condensers of the first and second circuit, and with each of the condensers/evaporators having return bends at their ends to provide a two-pass flow arrangement. The flow in the condenser waterbox passes into a first passage and then in one direction to the condenser of one circuit while the flow into the evaporator waterbox passes into a first passage and then in the opposite direction to one of the circuit evaporators. In this manner, a series counterflow arrangement with two water passes is achieved.

A reed valve having a plurality of tips and associated recesses is provided as a compressor suction valve with each valve tip coacting with a suction port. The recesses are located in the housing structure defining the cylinder of the compressor and are spaced a distance on the order of 0.1 inches from the tips when the suction valve is closed. The valve is secured on one side of the cylinder and each tip is located along a line from the center of the cylinder through the center, or axis, of a suction port.

Efficiency of a transcritical vapor compression system is increased by compressor cooling. In one embodiment, a stream of cooling fluid accepts compressor motor heat. The heated cooling fluid merges with the fluid medium which accepts heat from the refrigerant in the gas cooler and exits the system, usefully transferring the heat out of the system. Additionally, as the refrigerant in the compressor is cooled, the density and the mass flow rate of the suction gas in the compressor is increased, increasing efficiency. Alternatively, an intercooler positioned between stages of a multi-stage compressor exchanges heat with the same fluid medium which accepts heat from the refrigerant in the gas cooler. After accepting heat from the refrigerant in the intercooler, the heated fluid medium exits the system, usefully transferring heat from the system.

Method for increasing efficiency of a vapor compression system by compressor cooling

A compressor piston has protrusions which extend upwardly into discharge ports to minimize clearance at the end of the compression stroke. The protrusions fit into circumferentially isolated discharge ports, and each of the ports are associated with reed valves. Preferably a cutout portion is formed into the piston head to allow clearance for movement of the suction valve. The suction valve is positioned on an inner face of a valve plate and the discharge reed valves are positioned on an outer face. The protrusions are preferably frustro-conical.
