The present invention relates generally a manufacturing process which results in a completely hydrogel polymer device that maintains lumen patency which allows for numerous applications. One or more physical post-implantation dimensions of the device can be controlled by placing it in a solution that has a predetermined osmolarity and/or pH. In addition, the device can deliver an absorbed therapeutic agent to a target anatomical site. Alternatively, the device can function as a selective membrane to selectively absorb one or more target molecules from a body fluid.

Methods for making and using a structural hydrogel polymer device

A rechargeable energy-storage device includes an anode; a cathode; a structural hydrogel disposed between the anode and the cathode, the structural hydrogel having hydrophilic segments and hydrophobic segments; and a porous carbon material disposed between the anode and the cathode. The hydrophilic segments and hydrophobic segments are uniformly distributed within the structural hydrogel.

Catheters and stents are particular examples, and their composition, mechanical characteristics, and the significantly unique ability to conduct and allow fluids to pass from one end to the other without physiological rejection, inflammation, or manifestation of complications due to implant or otherwise undesirable outcomes when used for ambulatory and or therapeutic interventions is the purpose of the invention.

Structural hydrogel polymer device

A method for delivering catheters, and stents composed of soft, compliant polymers through anatomical passages. These devices have a bulbous or enlarged anchorage end with a diameter greater than the rest of the catheter. To facilitate implant and delivery a pusher catheter or sheath with an internal lumen larger than the outer diameter of the catheter but smaller than the outer diameter of the bulbous or enlarged anchorage end is provided. The distal end of pusher catheter or the sheath physically engages the proximal end of the bulbous or enlarged anchorage end and applies an axial force to coaxially advance the catheter over a guidewire through anatomical passages. This method allows a physician to move the catheter to an anatomical site without the device exhibiting buckling due to axial force applied. Similarly, this delivery method will allow more force to be applied to the distal end of the catheter diminishing the likelihood of buckling.

A catheter based delivery system may be used for both therapeutic and diagnostic applications. The catheter based delivery system includes a catheter having a distal end. The distal end of the catheter includes several electrodes that can emit a radio frequency waveform, and may receive a signal representative of an impedance of material in the exposed to the radio frequency waveform. The radio frequency waveform may also be applied to ablate specifically targeted material exposed to the radio frequency waveform. The several electrodes may be configured as an antenna.

Ablation technology for catheter based delivery systems

A multi-lumen catheter for independent delivery and withdrawal of fluids having an improved leading end to minimize stasis and an improved coupling for connection to externally located infusion and withdrawal tubes. The improved leading end has an ellipsoidally shaped tip with a smooth, uninterrupted surface and, in close proximity to the tip, a port or ports evenly spaced along the length of each lumen in staggered relation between each lumen. The improved coupling is a generally L-shaped, implantable transition device bonded to a percutaneous access device. The overall conformation of the multi-lumen catheter may be either a 'U-shape' or an upright 'Z-shape.' Externally located infusion and withdrawal tubes are in fluid connection with an epidermal end of the transition device and a multi-lumen tube fits snugly over nipples at a subcutaneous end of the transition device.
