A coaxial cable includes: a center conductor; a dielectric layer circumferentially surrounding the center conductor; and an outer conductor circumferentially surrounding the dielectric layer. The dielectric layer comprises an inner sleeve that circumferentially overlies the center conductor and an outer sleeve that circumferentially overlies the inner conductor. The outer sleeve contacts the inner sleeve to form a plurality of longitudinally-spaced seams to create a plurality of sealed segments along a longitudinal axis of the cable.

A cable reduces loop inductance by changing the cross-sectional shape of the conductive elements of power supply and return conductors to something other than the traditional circular cross sectional shape, e.g., to a thin generally rectangular shape. The power supply and return conductors are also controlled in placement along the length of the cable, so that mutual inductance is maximized within a given power supply circuit, and minimized between the given power supply circuit and other power supply circuits within the cable. The return power supply conductor may optionally be sized for multiple power supply circuits, which may further reduce loop inductance and reduce crosstalk noise between different power supply circuits within a common cable. The power supply and return conductors may be part of a hybrid cable used to power and communicate with plural remote radio units proximate a top of a tower.

A stripline RF transmission cable has a flat inner conductor surrounded by a dielectric layer that is surrounded by an outer conductor. A jacket with an attachment feature surrounds the outer conductor. The attachment feature may be a fin aligned parallel or normal to the inner conductor. The attachment feature may be continuous or periodic along a longitudinal extent of the cable. The attachment feature may include male and female portions dimensioned to couple with one another, enabling adjacent cables to be attached to one another.

A method for manufacturing an electrical cable includes dividing a tube into a plurality of sectors by passage across a sectoring device, gathering the sectors into a stack by passage of the sectors through a gathering device, and surrounding the stack with an insulating layer. Additional strip features may be applied by application of one or more strip conditioners. Alternatively, strips may be supplied on individual reels for gathering or provided in a multi-end reel already stacked. Where a multi-end reel is provided, length differentials within the stack as it is unwound may be compensated for by application of a stretcher.

Methods for manufacturing an electrical cable

A fiber optic cable includes: a plurality of optical fibers; a tube circumferentially surrounding the optical fibers, the tube being formed of a first polymeric material; an armor circumferentially surrounding and fixed relative to the tube, the armor being formed of a metallic material; and a jacket circumferentially surrounding the armor, the jacket being formed of a second polymeric material. In this configuration, the cable can provide the requisite mechanical, electrical, handling and connectorizing properties for use in applications such as pavement crossings.

A method of making a coaxial cable includes forming a conductive tube and setting a settable material therein to define an inner conductor. Forming may include advancing a conductive strip and bending it into a tube having a longitudinal seam. The settable material may be dispensed onto the conductive strip continuously with the forming. Alternately, the settable material may be dispensed onto the conductive strip prior to advancing. The dispensing may use a puller cord as the settable material or carrying some or all of the settable material. The method may further include forming a dielectric layer surrounding the inner conductor, and forming an outer conductor surrounding the dielectric layer.

Method and apparatus for manufacturing coaxial cable with composite inner conductor

The present invention is a flexible low loss coaxial cable comprising a cylindrical plastic rod, an inner conductor surrounding the plastic rod, a dielectric layer surrounding the inner conductor, and a tubular metallic sheath closely surrounding the dielectric layer. The coaxial cable can further include a protective polymer jacket surrounding the sheath. The cylindrical plastic rod supports the inner conductor in bending and can be formed around a central structural member. The present invention also includes a method of making flexible coaxial cable.

Coaxial cable and method of making same

The present invention provides a coaxial cable having increasing moisture absorbency to remove moisture present in the cable and to prevent corrosion of the conductors in the cable. The coaxial cable of the invention includes an inner conductive tube, a moisture-absorbent material within the inner conductive tube, a dielectric surrounding the inner conductive tube, and a tubular metallic outer sheath surrounding the dielectric. The present invention further includes a method of making a coaxial cable that is capable of absorbing moisture that is present in the cable.

A flexible coaxial cable includes a core including at least one inner conductor and a foam polymer dielectric surrounding the inner conductor. The flexible coaxial cable also includes an electrically and mechanically continuous tubular copper sheath closely surrounding the core and adhesively bonded to the core. A protective outer jacket surrounds the tubular metallic sheath and is adhesively bonded to the tubular metallic sheath to increase the bending properties of the cable. The bond peel strength of the adhesive bond between the polymer jacket and the sheath is no more than 36 lb./in to provide a coaxial cable having excellent bending characteristics and which can be easily stripped to provide an electrical connection between the coaxial cable and other conductive elements. The present invention also includes a method of making flexible coaxial cable.
