The invention relates to novel crystalline forms of 3-(4-amino-l-oxo-l,3 dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-piperidine-2,6-dione, including a novel urea cocrystal of 3-(4-amino-l-oxo-l,3 dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-piperidine-2,6-dione; a novel gallic acid cocrystal of 3-(4-amino-l-oxo-1,3 dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-piperidine-2,6-dione; a novel propyl gallate cocrystal of 3-(4-amino-l-oxo-1,3 dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-piperidine-2,6-dione; and a novel L-tartaric acid cocrystal of 3-(4-amino-1-oxo-1,3 dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-piperidine-2,6-dione. The preparation and characterization of the novel crystalline forms according to various embodiments of the invention are described. The invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions containing the novel crystalline forms, and the therapeutic use of the novel crystalline forms.

The invention relates to novel crystalline forms of 3-(4-amino-1-oxo-1,3 dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-piperidine-2,6-dione, including a novel urea cocrystal of 3-(4-amino-1-oxo-1,3 dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-piperidine-2,6-dione; a novel gallic acid cocrystal of 3-(4-amino-1-oxo-1,3 dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-piperidine-2,6-dione; a novel propyl gallate cocrystal of 3-(4-amino-1-oxo-1,3 dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-piperidine-2,6-dione; and a novel L-tartaric acid cocrystal of 3-(4-amino-1-oxo-1,3 dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-piperidine-2,6-dione. The present disclosure relates to crystallizing a chemical substance(s) using ultrasound. Methods are provided for screening a chemical substance according to its solid forms by using ultrasound to generate new or unusual solid forms. Methods are also provided for crystallizing a chemical substance by novel techniques that include sonication. The present disclosure also relates to cocrystallization using ultrasound. Methods are provided for preparing cocrystals of an active agent and a guest by sonicating and crystallizing. Methods are also provided for screening a sample according to solid state phases (such as cocrystals and salts) and include generating a cocrystal from the sample using ultrasound.

The present disclosure relates to novel cocrystals and novel methods for cocrystallization. In particular, the disclosure includes cocrystals comprising a salt of an active agent, such as a chloride salt of an active pharmaceutical ingredient. The present disclosure also relates to methods of preparing cocrystals and methods for screening for solid state phases.

Cocrystallization

Cocrystals of metronidazole are described herein. Such cocrystals are a cocrystal of metronidazole with gentisic acid and a cocrystal of metronidazole with gallic acid. Cocrystals of imipramine hydrochloride are also described. Such cocrystals are a cocrystal of imipramine hydrochloride with (+)-camphoric acid, a cocrystal of imipramine hydrochloride with fumaric acid, and a cocrystal of imipramine hydrochloride with 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid.
