A christmas tree to control the production from a subsea oil or gas well is disclosed. The christmas tree design including a tree body having a first flow port and a tree cap; a tubing hanger landed within the tree body; an actuation mandrel landed within the tree body, the actuation mandrel having a flow port; and a flow diverter disposed within the tree cap to divert flow through the flow port. The christmas tree arrangement allows for dual barriers within the tree cap without placing or retrieving any plugs from within the tubing hanger, thereby reducing the number of downhole trips required to complete and/or service the subsea well.

The invention is a safety device for a trapped volume space for use as overpressure protection made of a housing forming a chamber within a trapped volume space having a incompressible fluid, a compressible material disposed in the chamber, and a pressure relief component in communication with the compressible material and the incompressible fluid, wherein the pressure relief component is adapted to break at a predetermined point thereby increasing the trapped volume space by compressing the compressible material and resulting in a reduced pressure in the trapped volume space.

A remotely installed pressure containing closure having a slight negative buoyancy, and a method for assembly of a slight negative buoyancy remotely installed pressure containing closure, such as a tree cap, on a subsea assembly, having at least one fluid bore, and more preferably a production bore and an annulus bore, wherein the remotely installed pressure containing closure comprises: a guidance ring having a plurality of chambers; optionally, a plurality of orientation pins affixed to the guidance ring for aligning the guidance ring to a funnel; buoyant material disposed in the chambers of the guidance ring to assist in creating a slight negative buoyancy for the remotely installed pressure containing closure; a cylinder connected to the remotely installed pressure containing closure for engaging sealing means on a subsea assembly for sealing at least one seal of at least one fluid bore of said subsea assembly; a debris cover connected to said cylinder to house equipment and cover the fluid bore; a mandrel having at least one fluid bore disposed under said debris cover; an actuator secured to said cylinder; a plurality of locking dogs attached to said actuator by a plurality of rotatable rods for locking down said remotely installed pressure containing closure onto said mandrel; a rotatable handle secured to said actuator; a handle extension rod connected to said handle; a handle locking sleeve connected to said handle extension rod; and a locking ring in slidable engagement with said handle locking sleeve for engaging said ring against said subsea mandrel; and at least one dual function stab port for receiving a stab to activate the hydraulic cylinder.

Remotely installed pressure containing closure

A connector device for connecting a wellhead christmas tree assembly to a wellhead wherein the device comprises a cylindrical body adapted to be placed in sleeved relationship to the wellhead and having means for attaching a wellhead christmas tree assembly in coaxial relation therewith. The cylindrical body member is further provided with a plurality of lateral openings in equiangular relationship with respect to the axis of the body member. The connector further includes a plurality of locking dogs, each having a toothed front face in conforming configuration with the wellhead exterior and each disposed in a different one of the lateral openings. The connector also includes a first drive means comprising a locking sleeve with an internal camming surface for interacting with a matching cam surface on the back face of each of the locking dogs and adapted by an actuator to drive the locking dogs into locking engagement with the wellhead. The taper of the matching cam surfaces is sufficiently small such that when the drive force is removed, the locking dogs remain in their locking condition. The device also includes a second drive means for forcibly moving the locking dogs away from the wellhead to disconnect from the wellhead where a disconnect is desired.
