A system and method for manufacturing composite parts has been developed which offers the ability to produce composite parts in an infusion resin process without the use of expensive preforms or tools. In addition, the methods of manufacturing composite parts described herein offer the ability to produce composite parts having complex structures without the need for complex tooling. The method of manufacturing and systems described herein typically include printing a part skeleton using an additive manufacturing process followed by infusing the part skeleton with resin and curing the resin infused part skeleton to form the composite part.

A tool for removal of a spring clip from a nut plate assembly includes an inner sleeve having a first cleat configured to engage a first end of a spring clip and an outer sleeve having a second cleat configured to engage a second end of the spring clip, the outer sleeve being rotatably disposed around a portion of the inner sleeve. The tool includes first and second grip tabs respectively extending radially from a longitudinally extending central axis of the inner sleeve and the outer sleeve. Movement of the first grip tab and the second grip tab towards each other rotates the inner sleeve relative to the outer sleeve, and causes the first cleat and the second cleat to rotate towards each other to engage the first and second ends of the spring clip and to enable the spring clip to be removed from an assembled nut plate.

A blade-protecting sheath is configured to protect a cutting blade of an ultrasonic cutting system. The blade-protecting sheath includes a main body having a first end and an opposite second end, a blade-receiving channel formed through the first end, and a nut-retention chamber connected to the blade-receiving channel. The nut-retention chamber is defined by interior planar walls that are configured to receive and constrain a nut of the ultrasonic cutting system. A blade slot is connected to the nut-retention chamber. The cutting blade is configured to pass into the blade slot and be secured within a blade chamber.

The devices include a vacuum compaction device including a compaction force transfer structure, a sealing structure, and a vacuum distribution manifold. The compaction force transfer structure includes a first barrier structure, a second barrier structure, and a junction support that extends at least partially between the first barrier structure and the second barrier structure. The junction support is configured to maintain the first barrier structure and the second barrier structure at an angle with respect to one another and to permit limited angular motion of the first barrier structure and the second barrier structure relative to one another. The systems include composite structure fabrication systems that include the vacuum compaction device. The methods include methods of operating the vacuum compaction device.
