In some examples, a feedthrough assembly a ferrule including a base portion and at least one projection extending from the base portion; a capacitive filter positioned adjacent the base portion of the ferrule such that an outer wall of the capacitive filter faces an inner wall of the at least one projection of the ferrule; a conductive pin extending through an aperture in the ferrule and an aperture in the capacitive filter; and an electrically conductive material between the inner wall of the at least one projection of the ferrule and outer wall of the capacitive filter that electrically couples the ferrule and the capacitive filter to ground the capacitive filter, wherein the inner wall of the at least one projection of the ferrule and the outer wall of the capacitive filter are tapered.

Structures and methods relating to electrodes for incorporation into a feedthrough with a profile adapted for subcutaneous sensing of physiologic and cardiac signals. Electrode assemblies are adapted for integration with feedthroughs and provide reliable insulation from the implantable medical device housing. Various structures and manufacturing processes are implemented to provide a large sensing surface with a low profile. The subcutaneous sensing electrode assembly can provide a leadless sensing system and further enhances installation and follow-up procedures.

A battery having an electrode assembly located in a housing that efficiently utilizes the space available in many implantable medical devices is disclosed. The battery housing provides a cover and a shallow case a preferably planar, major bottom portion, an open top to receive the cover opposing the bottom portion, and a plurality of sides being radiused at intersections with each other and with the bottom to allow for the close abutting of other components located within the implantable device while also providing for efficient location of the battery within an arcuate edge of the device. The cover and the shallow case being substantially hermetically sealed by a laser weld technique and an insulator member disposed within the case to provide a barrier to incident laser radiation so that during welding radiation does not impinge upon radiation sensitive component(s) disposed within the case.

At least one storage component, for example a capacitor or a battery, of an implantable medical device includes two perimeter surfaces. Linear extensions of the two perimeter surfaces define a zone. An electrical connector, which is coupled to the storage component and includes at least one connection point for electrically connecting the storage component with at least one other component within the medical device, is contained within the zone defined by the linear extensions of the two perimeter surfaces.

A method of manufacturing a medical lead comprising a lead body with at least one conductor and an elongate paddle having an electrode array. A first section is formed having a first butt bond by butt bonding an end of a first substantially flat and elongate member to an end a second substantially flat and elongate member. A second section is formed having a second butt bond by butt bonding an end of a third substantially flat and elongate member to an end a fourth substantially flat and elongate member. The first section is laminated to the second section to form the elongate paddle of the medical lead with the first butt bond longitudinally offset from the second butt bond. A medical lead made by exemplary embodiments of the method is also described.

A laser ribbon bond pad array connector is disclosed for electrically connecting a RF module to an IMD circuit board in an implantable medical device. The array connector includes a connector body with a plurality of electrically isolated bonding fingers embedded in the connector body. Each bonding finger includes a solder pad that is on a first surface of the connector body and a laser ribbon bond pad that is on a second surface of the connector body. The first and second surfaces are spaced apart in angular relations thereof.

One embodiment is an apparatus having at least one electrical connector comprising a tab section and a housing at least partially enclosing the electrical connectors, wherein the housing is molded into sealing engagement with the electrical connectors and the tab section is capable of removal from the electrical connector after the housing is molded.
