A coated abrasive product having a coating comprising a composition formed from an epoxy resin that is capable of being coated from water, a curing agent, and a grinding aid dispersed in the epoxy resin. It is preferred that the coat containing the epoxy resin and the grinding aid be the outermost coat of the coated abrasive product, e.g. the size coat or supersize coat, in order to position the grinding aid in direct contact with the workpiece being abraded.

A coated abrasive article having a coating comprising a composition formed from an epoxy resin that is capable of being coated from water, a curing agent, and optionally a grinding aid dispersed in the epoxy resin. It is preferred that the coat containing the epoxy resin and the grinding aid be the outermost coat of the coated abrasive article, e.g. the size coat or supersize coat, in order to position the grinding aid in direct contact with the workpiece being abraded.

A method of making a coated abrasive article having an electrically conductive backing is taught, wherein electrically conductive material is incorporated into a coated abrasive backing. The coated abrasive article made by this method has a reduced tendency to accumulate static electric charge in the abrasive article during abrading of a workpiece.

Method of making a coated abrasive article containing a conductive

An abrasive article (i.e., a coated abrasive article or a three-dimensional, low density abrasive article) having a sufficient amount of vanadium oxide incorporated therein to provide having a reduced tendency to buildup static electricity during the abrading of a workpiece. Preferably, the abrasive article further comprises a compatible binder (preferably, a sulfonated polymer) to aid in securing the vanadium oxide to the abrasive article. In another aspect, a method of making the same is taught.

Conductive coated abrasives

An abrasive product comprising abrasive grains bonded to at least one major surface of a backing sheet by a binder formed from a blend comprising radiation curable monomer and a thermally curable resinous material. The radiation curable monomer can be selected from the group consisting of isocyanurate derivatives having at least one terminal or pendant acrylate group, isocyanate derivatives having at least one terminal or pendant acrylate group, and multifunctional acrylate monomers. The thermally curable resinous material is preferably a member selected from the group consisting of phenolic resins, urea-formaldehyde resins, melamine-formaldehyde resins, and epoxy resins. The binder can be used to form the make coat, size coat, both make and size coats, or as a backing treatment for a coated abrasive product. The binder can also be used in fibrous nonwoven abrasive products. The binder can also be used in embodiments where only a single-coat binder is employed.
