A system for irradiating a microplate may include a light engine with a plurality of light sources, such as light-emitting diodes, included in one or more linear arrays. The plurality of light sources are configured to emit germicidal irradiation, which is directed to the microplate by optical components, such as optical lenses positioned on top of each well of the microplate. The linear array is linearly movable so that as the linear array scans across the microplate, the optical components direct the germicidal irradiation to a plurality of surfaces of each well.

A lighting module has an array of light emitters, a heat sink having a first surface, the array of light emitters being mounted to the first surface, a microchannel cooler arranged on a second surface of the heat sink on an opposite side of the heat sink from the first surface, the microchannel cooler arranged to transport a liquid through a channel on the second surface of the heat sink, and a cooling unit thermally coupled to a microchannel cooler and arranged to remove heat from the liquid.

A lighting module includes an array of light emitters, a heat pipe having a flat portion, the array of light emitters being mounted to the flat portion, a liquid inside the heat pipe, the liquid selected to vaporize upon exposure to heat from the array, and a cooling unit thermally coupled to the heat pipe configured to cool the vaporized liquid.
