Systems and methods for a tightly coupled trajectory predictor with constant up-finding are provided. In certain embodiments, a system includes an inertial measurement unit that provides inertial measurements of a vehicle. The system also includes an up-finding sensor that provides up-finding measurements based on when a portion of the vehicle is pointing up. Further, the system includes one or more processors that bound errors from the inertial measurements in a navigation solution during navigation of the vehicle using the up-finding measurements.

A navigation system includes at least one inertial sensor configured to detect motion of the system and generate inertial data; at least one aiding device configured to generate aiding device measurement data; at least one processing unit configured to generate an un-smoothed navigation solution inclusive of navigation state variable error resets based on the inertial data and the aiding device measurement data; wherein the at least one processing unit is further configured to sum the state variable error resets into a cumulative sum of the state variable error resets; wherein the at least one processing unit is further configured to high pass filter the cumulative sum of the state variable error resets; and wherein the at least one processing unit is further configured to subtract the high pass filtered cumulative sum of the state variable error resets from the un-smoothed navigation solution to generate a smoothed navigation solution.

An Inertial Navigation System (INS) testing system includes a Unit Under Test (UUT) with an INS module, a DAT tool configured to provide command and control functions to a user, and a Dynamically Integrated Navigation Tester (DINT) in communication with the UUT and the DAT tool. The DINT includes a truth data conversion module configured to receive truth data and convert it to navigation data suitable for transmission to the UUT. The INS testing system advantageously allow a user to interface with a UUT while providing user-specified dynamic inputs from the DINT with the truth data selected by the user.

Dynamically integrated navigation tester

An example embodiment includes a method for initializing a navigation system. The method includes receiving inertial measurement data from an inertial measurement unit over time and storing the inertial measurement data in a buffer with an indication of a time of validity for the inertial measurement data. The method also includes receiving navigation data from an aiding source, the navigation data having a time of validity, and initializing a navigation solution with the navigation data. The method also includes summing inertial measurement data from the buffer to produce an inertial motion estimate for a time increment after the time of validity of the navigation data, applying at least one of coning or sculling compensation to the inertial motion estimate to produce a compensated inertial motion estimate, and propagating the navigation solution forward based on the compensated inertial motion estimate.

Systems and methods to incorporate master navigation system resets during transfer alignment are provided. In one embodiment, a system comprises: a set of local inertial sensors; a local navigation processor coupled to local inertial sensors, the local navigation processor receiving inertial navigation data from local inertial sensors and converting the data into a navigation solution; a local Kalman filter (LKF) coupled to the local navigation processor and a master Kalman filter (MKF), the LKF receiving the navigation solution. The LKF receives from the MKF a Precision Transfer Alignment Message (PTAM) that includes at least one navigation aid measurement. The LKF inputs the navigation aid measurement into a measurement formation algorithm and calculates a measurement residual. The LKF receives from the MKF a Reset Transfer Alignment Message (RTAM) that includes a bias correction. The LKF inputs the bias correction into a state propagation algorithm to add to a navigation state.

A navigation system comprises a global positioning satellite receiver to receive at least one global positioning satellite signal and to output global positioning satellite information. The navigation system further comprises a programmable processor, communicatively coupled to the global positioning satellite receiver, to execute software. The navigation system further comprises a clock, communicatively to the programmable processor, to output processor clock information. The software estimates an amount of drift in the processor clock information using the GPS information and adjusts the processor clock information for the amount of drift in order to generate adjusted processor clock information. The software generates a navigation solution as a function of at least the global positioning satellite information and the adjusted processor clock information.

A method of determining an operational state of a navigation system of a platform is provided. The method comprises testing at least a portion of hardware in the navigation system. Additionally, a measurement of at least one navigation variable from an inertial sensor is combined with a measurement of another navigation variable. A plurality of residuals for the measurement of at least one navigation variable and the measurement of another navigation variable are determined with a blending filter. An error for the measurement of at least one navigation variable is estimated based on the plurality of residuals. The method also predicts an error for the measurement of at least one navigation variable while the navigation system is in route. A determination is made as to whether the navigation system meets operational standards based on testing at least a portion of hardware, estimating an error for the measurement of at least one navigation variable, and predicting an error for the measurement of at least one navigation variable. Finally, one of a first state and a second state of the navigation system is output, the first state indicating that the navigation system does meet operational standards and the second state indicating that the navigation system does not meet operational standards.

Method and apparatus for determining the operational state of a navigation system

Systems, methods and protocol for assuring separation of aircraft during parallel approaches. The systems, methods and protocol function in cooperation with existing TCAS to facilitate approaches of multiple aircraft on closely-spaced parallel runways. The systems, methods and protocol utilize data transmissions from equipped aircraft to obtain tracking information which is used in separation algorithms to generate alerts to an observer of possible threats.
