In an exemplary embodiment, an application server is disclosed that receives user information including textual content from a user device. The application server improves electronic communications and user collaboration by searching public or private databases for information relevant to the received textual information and providing a means for including selected related information such as links with an electronic communication or document when it is sent to a recipient. The application server interfaces with text messaging, instant messaging, email, and document applications to improve the information accuracy and efficiency of generating a document or message as well as improving the ease of communication and collaboration.

A method and system for distributing images for display by client systems. A distribution system includes an image server system that is connected to image client systems via a communications link, such as the Internet. The image server system is responsible for providing image packages to the image client systems and for collecting information from the image client systems. Each image client system periodically sends a heartbeat communication to the image server system. Upon receiving a heartbeat communication, the image server system determines the state of the image client system that sent the heartbeat communication and responds appropriately. The response may include instructions for the image client system to retrieve new images, to retrieve software updates, to send usage data, and so on.

A method and system for generating an image display plan is provided. In one embodiment, a planning system allows a user to create a display plan that specifies a sequence of images that are to be displayed and how the images are to be displayed. The planning system allows a user to specify different versions of the plan for different aspect ratios. When displaying the image, the planning system may display multiple viewports simultaneously on the image, one for each of the different aspect ratios. The planning system may allow the multiple viewports to be moved around and resized as a unit maintaining a common center point for the viewports.

A system for securely distributing content is provided. A distribution system includes a content server that distributes content to content clients via a communications link or a tangible medium. The distribution system uses passwords to encrypt and decrypt content and to control access to sensitive information stored on the content clients. The distribution system initially receives various passwords from a user and encrypts each password. Some of the encrypted passwords are 'identification passwords' and others are 'encryption passwords.' The identification passwords are used to control access to sensitive information stored on the content clients, and the encryption passwords are used to encrypt and decrypt content that is distributed to the content clients. The distribution system configures each content client to contain the identification passwords and encryption passwords in a secure folder.

A facility for adjusting the execution of an advertising campaign in which advertising messages are presented using a plurality of advertising alternatives as described. During a first time period, the facility presents advertising messages using each of the advertising alternatives in accordance with an initial allocation for each of the advertising alternatives. Also during the first time period, the facility tracks the performance of the advertising campaign with respect to each of the advertising alternatives. Based upon the tracking during the first time period, the facility attributes a performance score to each of the advertising alternatives for the first time period. The facility compares these scores, and, based upon the comparison, adjusts the allocations for the advertising alternatives so as to increase one or more allocations for advertising alternatives which compare favorably in the comparison, and so as to reduce one or more allocations for advertising alternatives comparing disfavorably in the comparison. The facility then, during a second time period, presents advertising messages using each of the advertising alternatives in accordance with the adjusted allocation for each of the advertising alternatives.
