An ostomy appliance includes an ostomy hydrocolloid having a body-facing side, a pouch-facing side and a stoma opening, at least one fluid aperture formed in the body-facing side and at least one fluidic channel embedded in the ostomy hydrocolloid having a proximal portion disposed in fluid communication with the at least one fluid aperture. The ostomy appliance also includes at least one window formed in the pouch facing side, the at least one window aligned with a distal portion of the fluidic channel such that a portion of the fluidic channel is visible through the window. In another embodiment, an ostomy appliance includes a skin barrier material and an ultrasonic detection device for monitoring the skin barrier material.

An ostomy leakage detection system includes a sensing accessory, a wearable subsystem, a charging dock, and a mobile application. The sensing accessory includes a sensor region comprising a plurality of sensors for measuring resistance of an ostomy appliance, a connector region for connecting to the wearable subsystem, and a tail region extending between the sensor region and the connector region.

Ostomy leakage detection system

A method of detecting ostomy effluent leakage in an ostomy appliance is provided. The method includes the steps of providing a plurality of sensors; measuring resistance of the ostomy appliance using each of the plurality of sensors; entering resistance measurements in a ring buffer configured to hold resistance measurements; calculating a median resistance value of each of the plurality of sensors using the resistance measurements; comparing the median resistance value against a predetermined range of acceptable resistance values; increasing a leak count for a corresponding sensor when the median resistance value of the sensor is outside the predetermined range of acceptable resistance values; determining a leak state when the leak count increases beyond a predetermined acceptable leak count; and sending an alert upon a determination of a leak state.

Method of detecting leakage in medical devices

An ostomy device includes a proximal side configured for attachment to a user, a distal side opposite to the proximal side, and a leakage detection sensor having electrically conductive circuitry supported on a support layer. The leakage detection sensor is configured to detect ostomy effluent by detecting a change in resistance in the electrically conductive circuitry. The ostomy device may be an ostomy appliance or an ostomy accessory.

An ostomy appliance system includes an ostomy appliance having a stoma opening and a first electrical interface, and at least one thermal sensor configured to detect at least one thermal property, such as temperature, at the ostomy appliance, the at least one temperature sensor connected to the first electrical interface with electrical circuitry. A wearable device may be removably connected to the ostomy appliance and operably connected to the at least one thermal sensor. The wearable device includes a housing, a second electrical interface configured for electrical connection to the first electrical interface, a power supply and a controller operably connected to the power supply. The controller is configured to determine a condition of the ostomy appliance based on the at least one thermal property detected at the at least one thermal sensor. The wearable device may also include a wireless transceiver configured to communicate with a personal communication device.

Ultraviolet (UV) light emission devices and related methods of use. The UV light emission devices disclosed herein are particularly suited for use in disinfecting surfaces and air. The UV light emission devices disclosed herein can be provided in the form factor of a handheld device that is easily held and manipulated by a human user. The human user can manipulate the handheld UV light emission device to decontaminate surfaces, air, and other areas by orienting the handheld UV light emission device so that the UV light emitted from its light source is directed to the area of interest to be decontaminated.

Eyelid illumination systems and methods for imaging meibomian glands for meibomian gland analysis are disclosed. In one embodiment, a patient's eyelid is IR trans-illuminated with an infrared (IR) light. A trans-illumination image of the patient's eyelid is captured, showing meibomian glands in dark outlined areas, whereas non-gland material is shown in light areas. This provides a high contrast image of the meibomian glands that is X-ray-like. The lid trans-illumination image of the meibomian glands can be analyzed to determine to diagnose the meibomian glands in the patient's eyelid. The eyelid may be trans-illuminated by a lid-flipping device configured to grasp and flip the eyelid for imaging the interior surface of the eyelid. Also, an IR surface meibography image of the meibomian glands may also be captured and combined with the trans-illumination image of the meibomian glands to provide a higher contrast image of the meibomian glands.

A sensor device for identifying an ostomy effluent leak location in an ostomy system includes a stoma opening and electrically conductive circuitry arranged in pattern around the stoma opening. The electrically conductive circuitry includes a first electrode and a second electrode spaced from the first electrode. The first electrode is subdivided by a plurality of resistors spaced along a length of the first electrode. The second electrode extends as a continuous strip of conductive material. The sensor device is configured to detect electrical resistance in the electrically conductive circuit and identify a location of a leak based on the detected electrical resistance.

A fluid container measurement system is disclosed. The fluid container measurement system is configured to suspend a load measurement assembly a distance above a support surface. The load measurement assembly houses a load cell and a measurement control circuit. The measurement control circuit is coupled to the load cell and configured to receive electrical signals indicative of a force imposed on the load cell. Electrical signals generated by the load cell indicative of the force exerted on the load cell can be used to measure the fluid container attached to the load cell linkage member.

A dispensing device, comprising a plurality of microfluidic pumps, microfluidic valves, and a microfluidic mixer chip, for receiving and mixing microfluidic amounts of a plurality of fluids having differing viscosities, is disclosed. A collapsible liquid reservoir has a flexible side wall having a lower step, a middle step and an upper step. Each of the steps includes a riser segment and a tread segment. The riser and tread segments are pivotably connected to one another at an external hinge. When the step is collapsed its segments define an acute step angle between them of about 23&#xb0;. When the step is expanded its segments define an obtuse step angle between them of about 115&#xb0;. The tread of at least one step is pivotably connected to the riser of an adjacent step at an internal hinge. The step segments joined to the internal hinge are symmetrical about a bisector of that hinge. The reservoir has a truncated pyramid shape defined by a generally square base and four trapezoidal side panels joined to one another at corners.
