A content consumption system or device may implement device-enabled identification for automated user detection. An identifying device may be detected at a content consumption device as within proximity of the content consumption device. An identifying device may be a mobile or wearable computing device, in various embodiments. A user account associated with the identification device may be selected for accessing content at the content consumption device. Access to content may be provided according to the selected user account. In some embodiments, content recommendations or content filtering may be performed based on the automatically determined user account.

This disclosure describes techniques and systems for encoding instructions in audio data that, when output on a speaker of a first device in an environment, cause a second device to output content in the environment. In some instances, the audio data has a frequency that is inaudible to users in the environment. Thus, the first device is able to cause the second device to output the content without users in the environment hearing the instructions. In some instances, the first device also outputs content, and the content output by the second device is played at an offset relative to a position of the content output by the first device.

A network-based enterprise or other system that makes items available for selection to users may implement group profiles for group item recommendations. A request for item recommendations offered via the network-based enterprise may be received. Multiple user accounts of the network-based enterprise may be detected as associated with the request. A group profile that includes the detected user accounts may be identified. Group profiles may maintain behavioral data for the respective user accounts included in the group profiles, as well as behavioral data for the group profile as a whole. Item recommendations may be generated according to the group profile and provided to the detected users. Group profiles may available across multiple systems and devices so that item recommendations based on a group profile may be provided to different systems.

A game information system that locates and identifies content in live or prerecorded video of games or other events, and that obtains information about the located content from one or more sources. Players associated with the located and identified content may be identified, and information about the players may also be obtained. The information about the identified content and/or players may be provided to devices associated with participants for display. The information may be overlaid on the game video and/or displayed in separate windows or screens. A participant may interact with the displayed information to obtain additional information about the content and/or players. Video and/or audio analysis techniques may be used to locate the content in the video. A machine learning technique may be used to improve performance of content location and identification over time.

This disclosure describes systems, devices, and techniques for selecting a device in an environment to act as a communication hub for other devices in the environment. For instance, an environment may include two or more devices that are configured to communicate with one another as well as with remote resources (e.g., Internet-available resources, etc.). In one example, the devices each include a first radio configured to communication over a wireless local area network (WLAN) and a second radio configured to communicate over a short-range wireless communication network, such as Bluetooth, ZigBee, Z-Wave, or the like. A device having a highest battery life may be selected as the communication hub for the devices, such that the other non-hub devices may therefore route messages through the hub using their short-range radios. In addition, the non-hub devices may power off their WLAN radios, thus conserving battery life of these devices.
