Described herein are wireless smart devices having integrated force, position, acceleration, and rotational sensing for science education (e.g., Newton's laws of motion, kinematics, etc.). An integrated wireless device includes an accelerometer to generate acceleration data based on detecting a current rate of acceleration of the integrated wireless device, a shaft encoder to detect angular positional changes of a shaft or axle of the integrated wireless device over time, and at least one processing unit coupled to the accelerometer. The at least one processing unit is configured to decode angular position data of the shaft encoder into positional data and to synchronize acceleration data received from the accelerometer with the positional data. In one example, a force load cell is coupled to the at least one processing unit. The force load cell measures applied force or impact force.

Wireless smart devices having integrated force, position, acceleration, and rotational sensing for science education

Described herein are propulsive force devices for providing propulsive force to integrated wireless devices for science education (e.g., Newton's laws of motion, kinematics, etc.). A propulsive force device includes a motor to drive a rotating member to generate a propulsive force and a motor driver coupled to the motor. The motor driver controls operation of the motor and at least one processing unit is coupled to the motor driver. The at least one processing unit is configured to receive a control signal from an integrated wireless device to adjust at least one parameter of the propulsive force device. When the propulsive force device is mounted to an integrated wireless device, operation of the propulsive force device may be configured to alter, adjust, or otherwise change dynamic properties of the integrated wireless device during science education experiments.

Methods and wireless devices for proximity in-app sensor pairing for science education are described. The method may include initiating a science software application on a wireless device, automatically displaying a sensor connection display on a user interface of the wireless device with the sensor connection display including selectable available sensors, obtaining wireless sensor connection information for sensors that are advertising their availability to the wireless device, and sorting the available sensors by the wireless sensor connection information including received signal strength indicator (RSSI) information.
