A sealant applicator nozzle, of the present technology, has a fan-shaped profile, with a broad concave arc that defines a distal end of the nozzle and provides the nozzle with a tooling edge. The concave tooling edge, along with the outlet orifice, and two surface-contact edges are positioned to equidistantly straddle a lap joint to be sealed when in operation. In methods of using the nozzle, a wide ribbon of sealant is applied in a smoothly arched geometry, forming a segment of a circle, over a lap joint so that the thickest part of the arch is centered directly on the edge of the overlapping material that forms the lap joint.

A process of forming a single color, ablation image having improved abrasion resistance having the following steps: a) imagewise-heating, by a laser, an ablative recording element having a support having thereon an image layer having a colorant dispersed in a polymeric binder, which causes the image layer to ablate imagewise, the image layer having a near infrared-absorbing material associated therewith to absorb at a given wavelength of the laser used to expose the element, the image dye or pigment absorbing in the region of from about 300 to about 700 nm; and b) laminating a coating having polymeric particles dispersed in a binder to the surface of the ablative image under heat and pressure so that the particles will fuse into a continuous overcoat layer.

A process of forming a single color image which has improved abrasion resistance comprising: a) providing a thermal donor element comprising a heat-activatable image layer of a dye or pigment on a support, the image dye or pigment absorbing in the region of from about 300 to about 700 mn; b) providing a receiving element in superposed relationship with the thermal donor element; c) imagewise-exposing the thermal donor element by means of a laser or thermal head, thereby causing a change in the adhesion of at least a portion of the exposed areas of the heat-activatable layer to the receiving element or causing a portion of the exposed areas of the heat-activatable layer to diffuse into the receiver element; d) separating the thermal donor element from the receiver element, thus creating an image layer on either or both of the elements; e) charging either the thermal donor element or the receiver element containing the image layer to a given polarity or applying a voltage across the surface of the element which is attracted to a conductive surface behind the element; f) applying colorless, charged particles to the element containing the image layer which causes them to be electrostatically attracted to the surface of the image layer; and g) heat-fusing the particles to obtain a protective overcoat over the entire surface of the image layer.

A photographic element is disclosed which comprises (a) a support, (b) a radiation-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer on one side of the support, and (c) a protective backing on the opposite side of the support which provides scratch and abrasion resistance and process surviving lubricity. The protective backing is comprised of one or more layers, the outermost of which comprises a film-forming hydrophobic lubricious polyimide-siloxane block copolymer. In preferred embodiments of the invention, the backing further comprises a solid particle dye dispersion of a filter dye which is readily soluble or decolorizable in alkali aqueous photographic processing solutions at pH of 8 or above dispersed in an alkaline aqueous insoluble, organic solvent soluble film forming binder, and an electrically conductive agent, such that the backing provides halation protection during exposure as well as process-surviving antistatic protection. The present invention provides photographic elements with a backing which provides photographic process-surviving lubricity. In preferred embodiments, the backing includes a filter dye layer which provides effective antihalation protection, where the filter dyes are decolorized or removed upon processing, preferably over a protected antistatic layer. The invention employs hydrophobic, inherently lubricious, polymeric binders that may be used as film-backing binders for anti-halation dyes, provide an adequate level of scratch and abrasion resistance, an appropriate level of slip or friction, and is coatable from relatively safe organic solvents.

Photographic elements having a process-surviving polysiloxane block

A photographic element is disclosed which comprises (a) a support, (b) a radiation-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer on one side of the support, and (c) a protective backing on the opposite side of the support which provides scratch and abrasion resistance and process surviving lubricity. The protective backing is comprised of one or more layers, the outermost of which comprises a film-forming hydrophobic lubricious polyester-siloxane block copolymer and a hydrophobic co-binder which does not contain polysiloxane block units.
