An integrated electromechanical and hydraulic system is disclosed which includes an electric machine, the electric machine includes a casing, a stator adapted to remain stationary within the casing, one or more electrically insulated windings coupled to the stator, a rotor separated from the stator and the one or more windings by a radial diamagnetic gap, electrical power couplings, and a first mechanical power couplings, and a hydraulic machine also disposed in the housing, the hydraulic machine having hydro-mechanical couplings as well as a second mechanical power couplings, wherein the second mechanical power couplings are coupled to the first mechanical power couplings.

Integrated electro-hydraulic machine

A hybrid electrical machine containing surface mounted magnets which includes a magnetically permeable cylindrically shaped stator assembly having at least one stator winding formed about a plurality of stator teeth, a rotor assembly concentrically disposed within the stator assembly, including a magnetically permeable rotor backiron, a rotational drive mechanism coupled to the rotor backiron, and a plurality of protruding rotor poles, each including a magnetically permeable pole support assembly, a winding provided around the pole support assembly, and a radially magnetized permanent magnet assembly disposed about the pole support assembly.

Hybrid surface magnet machine

A reluctance machine is disclosed. The reluctance machine includes a stationary member including a housing, a plurality of windings disposed in the housing, a plurality of electrical connections each electrical connection coupled to a corresponding winding of the plurality of windings, and a plurality of teeth coupled to the housing, a rotating member having a center including a mechanical coupling member formed about the center, and a plurality of outwardly protruding poles centrally located within the stationary member each outwardly protruding pole having a continuous outer surface adjacent to at least one tooth of the plurality of teeth, wherein each outer surface of each outwardly protruding pole having a first portion being a first distance away from the center and a second portion being a second distance away from the center.

Asymmetrical reluctance machine

Methods and apparatus for characterizing magnetic properties of materials, such as a material's anhysteretic B-H characteristic or its permeability as a function of B or H. A test apparatus for determining these magnetic properties is constructed to yield a symmetrical field distribution through material being tested to avoid localized saturation within the material. Characterization methods take into account radial variations in tangential field intensities when calculating the magnetic properties. The calculations are obtained as solutions of optimization problems through optimization methods such as genetic algorithms.

Methods and apparatus for characterizing magnetic properties of materials

Power electronic based power and propulsion systems are used in a wide variety of applications including locomotives, hybrid electric vehicles, aircraft, spacecraft, and ships. In general, the power electronic loads in such systems have tightly regulated outputs which causes them to behave as constant power loads exhibiting negative input impedances in a small signal sense. Such systems can be prone to negative impedance instability. The present invention mitigates negative impedance instability without the introduction of any passive or active devices into the system by providing nonlinear modulation of the power into the power electronic load.
