A user interface device for an intelligent automated assistant service uses a plurality of audio data paths that can be selectively switched to operate in a privacy mode. There is provided a first audio data input path between the audio input subsystem and an internal buffer; a first audio data output path between the internal buffer and the first communications subsystem; a second audio data output path between the internal buffer and the second communications subsystem; and a first audio data bypass path between the audio input subsystem and the second communications subsystem. In a first state, the first audio data input path directs audio data to the internal buffer, and to the first and second audio data output paths. In a second state, the first audio data input path is terminated and audio data is directed to the second communications subsystem on the first audio data bypass path.

A method of controlling display of information on a touch-sensitive display of a portable electronic device includes displaying selectable elements in an application screen. The first selectable element is located at a first location and, in response to receipt of an input, entering the display control mode of the portable electronic device. The method also includes, while in the display control mode and in response to receipt of a gesture on keys on a mechanical keyboard, moving, by an operating system on the portable electronic device, the application screen on the touch-sensitive display such that the first selectable element is moved to a second location. In response to detecting a touch at the second location while the first selectable element is displayed at the second location, utilizing, by the application, the touch to select the first selectable element. Returning the application to an original location on the touch-sensitive display when exiting the display control mode.

Portable electronic device and method of controlling the display of information

In one example, information is presented to a user through an electronic device in a non-visual manner. In this example, an informational event is received. Next, a determination is made if the informational event has been previously associated with a binaural sound sequence, the binaural sound sequence includes a user's nominal ear spacing for sound localization in a 3D space. The binaural sound sequence is presented to a multimedia port, in response to a binaural sound sequence being previously associated with the event. The localization in the 3D space using a binaural sound can be associated with importance, future times, source of information associated with the event, a person associated with the event, or a combination thereof.

A communications system may include at least one mobile wireless communications device for storing personal interest information for respective contacts and for storing calendar event data. The system may further include a notification server communicating with the at least one mobile wireless communications device via a wireless communications network and configured to access the personal interest information and calendar event data from the at least one mobile wireless communications device, and send notifications to the at least one mobile wireless communications device based upon the personal interest information and the calendar event data.

A method of tagging a location using a mobile device entails obtaining position data for a current location of the mobile device, detecting a proximity of another device using a short-range wireless interface, and automatically storing the position data for the current location of the mobile device in response to the detecting of the proximity of the other device. The proximity detector may comprise a near field communication (NFC) interface, a Bluetooth&#xae; transceiver or another short-range wireless technology that may be employed to detect the proximity of another device. This technology enables two devices to store a current location to facilitate a subsequent rendezvous back at that same location.
