An endoscope that has an integrated light source and camera mounted at the distal end of the endoscope. The light source is a class of LED devices constructed of high-efficiency LEDs that emit narrow-band blue light coupled with phosphors, which cause a nearly natural 'white' light to be emitted. The LEDs are coupled to a waveguide for transmission of the light to the distal end of the endoscope.

The present invention relates, in general, to electrosurgical instruments and, more particularly, to a feedback light used in cooperation with an electrosurgical instrument. The present invention further comprises first and second moveable jaws. A first electrode is housed within the first moveable jaw and a second electrode is housed within the second moveable jaw, where the electrodes are connectable to a power source for providing an electric current between the electrodes. The present invention is directed to a bipolar electrosurgical end effector for use in medical instruments. A bipolar end effector according to the present invention includes a tissue slot and electrodes arranged on either side of the tissue slot. The opposing electrodes are electrically connected such that tissue passing through the slot is electrically treated with electrosurgical current passing laterally through the tissue. An end effector according to the present invention further includes a tissue separator arranged at the end of the slot to divide tissue as it is passed through the slot and after it is treated.

The present invention is directed to a bipolar electrosurgical instrument suitable for use in mesentery tissue and other suitable tissue structures, including vessels. A biopsy probe for the collection of at least one soft tissue sample from a surgical-patient. The biopsy probe has a handle, having a distal end and a proximal end, for holding the probe. The probe further includes an elongated needle, located at the distal end of the handle. The needle has a sharpened distal end for piercing tissue and a bowl for receiving a tissue mass. The probe has a cutter for severing the tissue mass received in the bowl, and at least one tissue marker element to apply a mark to the exterior of the tissue so the radial orientation of the tissue can later be determined.

A method of repairing a defect in tissue includes the steps of placing a prosthetic over a tissue defect and against surrounding tissue. The embedded prosthetic is then welded into surrounding tissue by an application of pressure and ultrasonic energy on the same location. The second application of energy is at a different energy intensity than the first application of energy.

A method of repairing a defect in tissue includes the steps of placing a prosthetic over a tissue defect and against surrounding tissue. The surgical device has a housing and an acoustic assembly having an electrically conductive waveguide. The waveguide has a solid core and extends from the housing. A conductive element for conducting Radio Frequency energy to the waveguide is operably coupled to the waveguide. The distal end of the waveguide of the acoustic assembly has an end effector for the conduction of ultrasonic energy or Radio Frequency energy. A number of novel end effectors for the emulsification and cauterization of tissue are described.
