A mounting system and method secure a power distribution unit within a substrate at sites where access behind the substrate is unavailable to a worker effecting the installation. The power distribution unit is coupled to a trim plate for displacement relative to the trim plate when the trim plate is engaged with an obverse surface of the substrate. Displacement of the power distribution unit relative to the trim plate from a first position into a second position beyond the obverse surface, and then release of the power distribution unit for return toward the first position, in response to a biasing force, enables a retention member to lock the power distribution unit in place within the substrate. Selective removal of the power distribution unit from the substrate is accomplished by lifting the trim plate from the obverse surface of the substrate to effect release of the retention member from the power distribution unit, thereby releasing the power distribution unit from the substrate.

Mounting a power distribution unit within a mounting substrate

In a furniture supported power control arrangement and method, power is controlled selectively from one of two furniture locations in the arrangement. A three-way circuit is comprised of low-voltage wiring connecting a first double-throw electric switch carried at a first furniture location for selective manual actuation, and a second double-throw electric switch carried at a second furniture location for selective manual actuation. A low-voltage driver supplies low-voltage power to the three-way circuit, and a low-voltage room lighting system is connected to the three-way circuit, whereby low-voltage power is directed to or disconnected from the room lighting system as controlled selectively by actuation of either one of the first and second double-throw electric switches.

Furniture supported power control

A retrofit device and method adapt an existing, conventional lighting fixture for resisting bio-fouling of a primary window of the lighting fixture when submerged and exposed to biological organisms within a surrounding environment. The primary window is isolated from the surrounding environment by an auxiliary window member, and ultraviolet radiation is directed to the outer surface of the auxiliary window member from a source within the retrofit device, enabling transmission of ultraviolet radiation to the outer surface of the auxiliary window member of an intensity limited to essentially that which is effective in rendering the outer surface of the auxiliary window member immune to permanent adherence of biological organisms to which that outer surface is exposed when submerged, thereby allowing illumination from a source behind the primary window to be projected effectively through the auxiliary window member into the surrounding environment.

Anti-biofouling of submerged lighting fixtures

A lighting fixture and method resist bio-fouling of the outer surface of a window of the lighting fixture when submerged and exposed to biological organisms within a surrounding environment. Ultraviolet radiation is directed to the outer surface of the window from a source inserted within the window, enabling transmission of ultraviolet radiation to the outer surface of the window of an intensity limited to essentially that which is effective in rendering the outer surface immune to adherence of biological organisms to which the outer surface of the window is exposed when submerged, and thereby allowing light from a source behind the window to be projected effectively through the window and into the surrounding environment.

A lighting fixture and method resist bio-fouling of a window of the lighting fixture when submerged and exposed to biological organisms within a surrounding environment. Ultraviolet radiation is directed to the window from a source within the fixture, enabling transmission of the ultraviolet radiation through the window to an outer surface of the window to combat biological organisms to which the outer surface of the window is exposed when submerged, and allowing light from a source behind the window to be projected effectively through the window and into the surrounding environment.

A method and a mirror selectively magnify an image reflected by a discrete portion of a reflective area of the mirror while an image reflected by the remainder of the reflective area outside the discrete portion remains unchanged. A light-transmitting area is placed within the reflective area, outside of and adjacent to the discrete portion, and a light source is located for directing light through the light-transmitting area to illuminate a space adjacent to and confronting at least the discrete portion of the reflective area.

A lamp unit having an electromechanical ball including first and second electrically-conductive hemispheres separated by an insulator region, the ball being pop-fit insertable and removable anywhere along a guide track apparatus providing first and second oppositely-disposed conductor strips, the lamp unit being rotatable with respect to the conductor strips to provide on-off switching. The lamp unit-track combination provides the multiple capabilities of aiming and on-off switching, as well as lamp insertion and removal, while eliminating conventional fixturing.

A lighting system includes a plurality of elongate tubular members joined together in a selected array, each tubular member carrying lamp assemblies therein and aimed laterally through apertures in the wall of the tubular member, the lamp assemblies being captured within the tubular members by coupling means enabling rotation of the lamp assemblies for aiming purposes and selective insertion and withdrawal of the lamp assemblies through corresponding apertures for removal and replacement of expended lamps.
