The present disclosure provides methods for identifying a hydrocarbon fuel, such as the presence and/or amounts of marker compounds having a fluorescence intensity and, through correlation, the presence and/or amounts of additive package(s) within the hydrocarbon fuel. The methods include obtaining a sample of a hydrocarbon fuel including a marker compound having fluorescence, combining the hydrocarbon fuel with water, and subjecting a water phase thereof to light for observing fluorescence.

Mannich-based quaternary ammonium salt fuel additives

A fuel composition, a lubricant composition, and methods for reducing friction or wear of moving parts. The fuel composition includes gasoline and from about 10 to about 500 ppm by weight of a dialkylaminoalkanol of the formula R(R)NCHCH(R)R. The lubricant composition includes base oil of lubricating viscosity and from about 0.05 to about 5.0 weight percent of a dialkylaminoalkanol of the formula R(R)NCHCH(R)R. In the above formulas wherein Ris an alkyl group or a hydroxy alkyl group containing from 8 to 50 carbon atoms; Ris an alkyl group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; Ris selected from H and OH; and Ris selected from H, an alkyl group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and CHOH and wherein at least one of Rand Rcontains a hydroxyl group and provided that when Ris a hydroxyalkyl group, Ris OH and Ris CHOH.

Dialkylaminoalkanol friction modifiers for fuels and lubricants

The present disclosure provides fuel additives including a quaternary ammonium salt formed by reacting an alkyl carboxylate with a compound formed from a hydrocarbyl substituted acylating agent reacted with a select amine. Also provided herein are fuel compositions including the novel fuel additives and methods of combusting a fuel including the fuel additives herein. The unique quaternary ammonium salts herein are advantageous because they can be made through a simple alkylation process and provide improved detergency at low treat rates by making available a relatively less sterically hindered quaternary nitrogen for detergency activity in the fuel.

Quaternary ammonium fuel additives

A carrier fluid or fluidizer for use in fuel performance additives or fuels including such additives is described herein. The novel carrier fluids include a unique blend of alkoxylated alcohols or polyols providing unexpected performance improvements to fuel performance additives and fuels incorporating the additives. The carrier fluids, when combined with at least a detergent, provide desired valve stick performance and unexpectedly improve the intake valve deposit performance at the same time.

Polyol carrier fluids and fuel compositions including polyol carrier fluids

Dialkyaminoalkanol friction modifiers for fuels and lubricants

Methods for improving the injector performance, unsticking fuel injectors, and reducing an amount of alkali metal carboxylate deposits on internal components of fuel injectors. The method includes operating the diesel engine on a fuel composition comprising a major amount of diesel fuel and from about 45 to about 550 ppm by weight based on a total weight of fuel composition of a fuel additive consisting essentially of a compound of the formula wherein R is an alkyl or alkenyl group containing from 20 to 170 carbon atoms. The additive has a total acid number (TAN) ranging from about 50 to about 290 mg KOH/g. Fuel injectors of the fuel injected diesel engine have an average injector hole diameter of less than 160 &#x3bc;m and an average smallest clearance between injector needle and injector barrel/casing of less than about 10 &#x3bc;m.

Fuel additives for treating internal deposits of fuel injectors

A fuel additive composition, fuel composition, method of improving the injector performance of a fuel injected engine, method for preventing or cleaning up deposits in an engine or fuel system, method of reducing wear in a fuel system of an engine, and method of improving the demulsibility of a fuel composition. The fuel composition includes from about 5 to about 300 ppm by weight based on a total weight of the fuel composition of a hydrocarbyl soluble quaternary ammonium carboxylate derived from a quaternary ammonium carbonate and an organic acid.

Hydrocarbyl soluble quaternary ammonium carboxylates and fuel compositions containing them

A diesel fuel additive package, diesel fuel containing the additive and methods for operating an engine on the diesel fuel and additive. The fuel additive includes a reaction product of (a) a hydrocarbyl substituted dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, and (b) an amine compound or salt thereof of the formula wherein R is selected from hydrogen and a hydrocarbyl group containing from about 1 to about 15 carbon atoms, and Ris selected from hydrogen and a hydrocarbyl group containing from about 1 to about 20 carbon atoms. The reaction product contains at least one amino triazole group. Component (2) of the additive is a hydrocarbyl succinimide dispersant. The additive also includes (3) a Cto Calkyl alcohol; and (4) optionally, a lubricity additive. In the additive, a weight ratio of component (1) to component (2) in the fuel ranges from about 1:3 to about 1:5.

Fuel additives to maintain optimum injector performance

A fuel soluble additive for a diesel engine, a method for improving performance of fuel injectors and a method for cleaning fuel injectors for a diesel engine. The fuel soluble additive includes a quaternary ammonium salt derived from the reaction of (a) a hydrocarbyl amine containing at least one tertiary amino group, (b) an epoxide compound selected from a glycidol, a glycidyl ether, glycidyl ester, polyglycidyl ether, a polyglycidyl ester, and combinations thereof, wherein substituents of the glycidyl group have, on average, less than five carbon atoms per hetero atom, and (c) optionally a proton donor.

A fuel additive and method for improving fuel economy in an engine. Polyhydroxyalkyl ether amines and fuels containing them

The disclosure provide a sulfur-free and halogen-free synergistic additive concentrate for a fuel injected engine. The additive concentrate includes (a) an alkoxylated quaternary ammonium salt of the formula (R)N[(RO)H], wherein Rcontains from 1 to 25 carbon atoms, Rcontains from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, n and m are each integers from 1 to 3, provided n+m=4, and x is an integer of from 1 to 5; and (b) a material containing a hydrogen-bonding group other than an alkyl hydroxyl group selected from the group consisting of a hydrocarbyl acid; hydrocarbyl polyacid; hydrocarbyl substituted hydroxybenzene; hydrocarbyl substituted succinic diamide, acid/amide, diacid, diester, ester/acid, amide/ester, imide; aminotriazole, and mixtures thereof, wherein the hydrocarbyl substituent has a number average molecular weight of from about 100 to about 1500, and wherein a weight ratio of (a) to (b) in the additive ranges from about 1:5 to about 1:1.

Fuel additive for improved injector performance

A fuel composition and method for reducing friction or wear and improving fuel economy in an engine. The fuel composition includes gasoline and from about 10 to about 750 ppm by weight based on a total weight of the fuel composition of a hydroxyalkyl hydrocarbyl-substituted succinimide compound having at least two hydroxyl groups attached to a tertiary nitrogen atom of a polyamino group through a hydrocarbyl link, wherein the hydroxyalkyl hydrocarbyl-substituted succinimide is devoid of primary and secondary amino groups.
