Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, transmitting a first request that includes a key, wherein the key identifies: a processing system that is a targeted recipient of an advertisement, a stream in which a primary content item is being provisioned to the processing system, and a service provider, based at least in part on the transmitting of the first request, obtaining information pertaining to an advertisement from a device of the service provider, and inserting the information within a portion of the stream corresponding to a break in the primary content item. Methods and apparatuses for a modular and extensible advertisement request

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving information from a plurality of equipment that is each managed by different entities where the information includes requests for ad insertions, and adjusting the information to generate adjusted information that is compatible with a plurality of multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD) advertising infrastructures and compatible with a plurality of dynamic advertising insertion (DAI) processes that are managed by different DAI entities. Access to at least one of the MVPD advertising infrastructures and access to at least one of the DAI processes to facilitate ad insertion can be provided to each of the plurality of equipment, and a change request can be determined that is associated with inventory. Access to a different one of the DAI processes can be provided to a first equipment of the plurality of equipment to facilitate at least some of the ad insertion according to the change request. Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a machine-readable storage medium, including executable instructions that perform operations that include providing an interface to a client device to submit an advertising campaign, analyzing a plurality of segments of a plurality of subscribers of an interactive media system according to desired traits for the advertising campaign, determining content distributed by the interactive media system that correlates with the audience as selected media content, identifying a plurality of devices for a selected subscriber of the identified subscribers that receive portions of the selected media content from the interactive media system as an identified plurality of devices, analyzing break metadata for the selected media content, selecting a selected message from an advertising playlist to be assigned to the upcoming break segment, selecting a device for delivery of the selected message.
