A monitoring station deployed in a network monitors packets over one or more interfaces in the network. The monitoring station identifies a flow in a media session. The flow includes at least one request message that includes a request for a segment or chunk of video content and one or more response messages including the requested chunk. The monitoring determines a start of a chunk in the flow and determines an end of the chunk in the flow. Using the start and end times of the chunk and next or subsequent chunks, the monitoring station determines one or more chunk statistics, such as chunk size, chunk duration and chunk download time.

System and method for quality of service detection of encrypted packet flows

An application layer monitoring module is configured to monitor application layer packets for a call supported by a voice application and to detect an interruption in the call based on the application layer packets. A signaling layer monitoring module is configured to monitor signaling layer events associated with the voice application concurrently with monitoring of the application layer packets for the call. A correlation module is configured to correlate the interruption with the signaling layer events in response to the application layer monitoring module detecting the interruption. A method and system for coordinated dynamic access to radio spectrum for wireless networking includes defining a coordinated access band (CAB) from which radio access network (RAN) managers may request spectrum allocations in the form of time bound spectrum leases for their respective requesting base stations. In one embodiment of the present invention, a DIMSUMnet architecture is implemented to make some fundamental choices and to centralize the collection of information, such as spectral occupancy, thermal and adjacent frequency interference. Such collected information is subsequently used by a spectrum broker in making spectrum allocation decisions. The DIMSUMnet architecture of the present invention also introduces a RAN manager element to centralize the task of acquiring time bound spectrum leases and for configuring the base stations.

Method and system for wireless networking using coordinated dynamic spectrum access

A network comprises agents which act as proxies on behalf of devices, such as wireless game devices, phones and personal digital assistants. Each agent collects information concerning a 'presence status' of a device. An agent determines whether to forward messages on to a device depending on the collected presence status (e.g., active/inactive) of the device. For example, if the presence status indicates the device is active then messages will be forwarded. If, however, the status indicates the device is inactive the message will not be forwarded. Instead, the agent may act as a proxy for the device while it is inactive. By only forwarding messages when a device is active, valuable airlink time and/or bandwidth can be conserved.

The invention includes a method and apparatus for dynamically allocating spectrum available within a region including a plurality of base stations.
