In a tire sensor monitoring system for a motor vehicle, each of a plurality of tire sensors periodically emits an identifying signal and a parameter signal and the monitoring system receives and processes the identifying and parameter signals. A method of indicating the status of the monitoring system comprises periodically determining whether the identifying and parameter signals emitted by the tire sensors are being received within preselected time limits, energizing a status indicator if all of said identifying and parameter signals are received within the preselected time limits, de-energizing the status indicator if any of said identifying and parameter signals is not received within the preselected time limits, periodically determining whether the parameter signals emitted by the tire sensors are within a preselected range of values, energizing the status indicator if all of said parameter signals are within the preselected range of values; and de-energizing the status indicator if any of said parameter signals is outside the preselected range of values.

Comprehensive status indicator for motor vehicle monitoring system

Apparatus for monitoring one or more motor vehicle tire conditions includes a receiver for intercepting signals from sensors mounted on the tires, a processor for identifying, converting, evaluating and storing said sensor signals, a keypad for selecting sensor data, an alarm for indicating an undesirable tire condition, and a display for providing sensor data. An unswitched circuit is connected to the vehicle battery and to the receiver and the processor in the monitoring apparatus. A switched circuit is connected via an ignition switch to the battery and to the monitoring apparatus as a whole. Sensor information obtained by the processor while the ignition switch is off is available to the user as soon as the ignition switch is turned on.

Apparatus for accelerating sensor reading upon start-up

Data transmitted from a newly installed tire sensor is integrated into monitoring apparatus having data from previously integrated tire sensors stored therein. Each of the newly installed and previously integrated tire sensors periodically transmits a unique identification code. The method comprises placing the monitoring apparatus into a programming mode, entering the tire location of the newly installed tire sensor in the monitoring apparatus, entering a fraction of the identification code for the newly installed tire sensor in the monitoring apparatus, placing the monitoring apparatus in a comparing mode, transmitting the identification codes from the newly installed and previously integrated tire sensors to the monitoring apparatus, comparing the transmitted identification codes with the identification codes and fraction of the identification code previously stored and entered in the monitoring apparatus, storing in the monitoring apparatus the full identification code transmitted from the newly installed tire sensor if a sequential portion of the full identification code matches the previously entered fraction thereof, and switching the monitoring apparatus to an operational mode.
