The present disclosure relates to antenna design for installation on small cell base stations. The antenna design corresponds to a conformal antenna design that fits into a traditional sun-shield of an outdoor base station. In another aspect, the antenna design supports multiple bands and multiple technologies. In a further aspect, the antenna design provides a gain pattern that allows installation of the small cells into directional sectors to further enhance the spectral efficiency while providing a single installation location. In still a further aspect, the design permits the form factor of the base station to meet unique and desirable aesthetic principals such as a modern curved surface and an attractive and distinctive height, width and depth ratio.

A small cell base station and method are disclosed for directing packets for the conversion of an internet protocol backhaul communications link into an RF transmit and simultaneously an RF receive signal into an internet protocol backhaul communications link between different air interface technologies. Packets are directed between licensed and unlicensed spectrum according to criteria that are implemented in algorithms running on electronic processors. The small cell base station includes a licensed spectrum baseband module that exchanges packets with the IP backhaul network, and an unlicensed spectrum baseband module that exchanges packets with the licensed spectrum baseband module but not with the IP backhaul network.

An improved communication system and method employing an actively controlled antenna array architecture is disclosed. The array contains a plurality of driven radiating elements that are spatially arranged having a pair of radiating elements fed with an RF signal predistorted so as to provide a controlled variation of the antenna array's elevation radiation pattern. High power amplifier (PA) efficiency is maintained by adaptive predistortion, coupled to each high power PA, while providing beam tilt and side lobe control.

Multi-element amplitude and phase compensated antenna array with adaptive pre-distortion for wireless network

An adaptive echo cancellation system and method employing an algorithm suitable for a digital repeater with sub-band filtering is disclosed. Cross- and auto-correlation measurements used to estimate the residual coupling are computed from normalized cross and power spectrums which avoid the problems associated with narrow bandwidth signal components. The normalized cross- and power spectra are additionally masked in frequency to reduce the influence of interfering spectral components outside of the passband of the sub-band filter. Regularization of the iterative estimation process is applied to maintain stability and compensate for the bandwidth reduction associated with the sub-band filter and the spectral mask.

Adaptive echo cancellation for an on-frequency RF repeater with digital sub-band filtering

A wireless repeater includes an input antenna for receiving an input signal, an output antenna for outputting an amplified signal, and an amplifier for amplifying the received input signal and providing the output amplified signal to the output antenna. Radiated coupling between the input and output antennas causes echoes to be transmitted by the repeater. A filter is used for applying a weighting function to a power spectrum of a measured signal in the wireless repeater thereby obtaining a weighted power spectrum of the measured signal. An internal feedback path is employed for adaptively canceling the echo by implementing an adaptive algorithm based on a autocorrelation of the input signal employing the weighted power spectrum of the measured signal.

Adaptive echo cancellation for an on-frequency RF repeater using a weighted power spectrum

A predistortion linearized amplifier system that uses analog polynomial based predistortion is disclosed. An analog polynomial function generator receives polynomial parameter updates from a polynomial parameter generator. The polynomial parameter generator uses a combination of analog and digital signal processing to create the parameter updates. This processing is performed on input signal amplitude, detected using analog circuits, and RF coupled samples of the input signal, and the output signal. By using a combination of analog and digital signal processing means, digital processing can be performed at sub-Nyquist rates, significantly reducing the cost of digital circuits. Also, since the predistortion modulation signal is created with an analog function generator, time correlating delay is minimized reducing circuit costs.

Amplifier system employing analog polynomial predistortion with sub-nyquist digital adaptation

A system for linearizing RF amplifiers employing baseband predistortion techniques provides additive or multiplicative predistortion of the quadrature (I/Q) input signal. The predistorter uses a discrete-time polynomial kernel to model the inverse transfer characteristic of the amplifier, providing separate and simultaneous compensation for nonlinear static distortion, linear dynamic distortion and nonlinear dynamic effects including reactive electrical memory effects. A predistortion controller monitors and compares the amplifier output with the quadrature input signal to compute estimates of the residual output distortion of the amplifier. Output distortion estimates are used to adaptively compute the predistorter parameter values in response to changes in the amplifier's operating conditions. The computed values are used in the predistorter. The predistortion system of the invention may provide broadband linearization of RF amplification circuits including, but not limited to, dynamic load modulation amplifiers.

Wideband enhanced digital injection predistortion system and method

A power amplifier system for high efficiency signal amplification of digitally modulated carrier signal or multi-carrier signals is disclosed. The linearity of the amplifier is improved by providing dynamic load line adjustments through implementation of suitably defined transfer functions employing dynamic control of operational aspects of active devices in the power amplifier.
