Providing fine granularity read access to generational copies of safeguarded copy data. In some instances, a fine granularity read access to generational copies of safeguarded copy data includes the ability to use a generation ID to determine the exact generation copy that contains relevant enterprise related data that must be recovered and/or utilized. Additionally, the fine granularity read access is done in a manner that does not require a restore of the relevant enterprise related data to a recovery volume and that does not compromise other generation copies.

Fine granularity read access to generational safeguarded copy data

Ensuring that enterprise data that has potentially become corrupted is recoverable and usable by creating safeguarded copy volumes of the enterprise data. One important aspect of any corruption detection scheme is to determine when the data has become corrupted and locate the last known uncorrupted copy of the data as quickly as possible. Once this set of data is identified, the restoration process can begin with that data, and subsequent logged transactions can be reapplied if possible, which brings the data to the most recent and uncorrupted version.

Generational access to safeguarded copy source volumes

A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: receiving a data process that includes a plurality of sub-processes. A unique subset of the sub-processes is assigned to each of: a managing thread, and at least one other thread. Moreover, performance characteristics of each of the threads is evaluated while the respective subsets of sub-processes are being performed, and a determination is made as to whether the performance characteristics of each of the threads are substantially equal to the performance characteristics of each of the other threads. In response to determining that performance characteristics of each of the threads are not substantially equal, the subsets of the sub-processes are dynamically adjusted such that the performance characteristics of each of the threads become more equal. Moreover, the adjusted subsets of the sub-processes are reassigned to each of the managing thread and at least one other thread.

Dynamic workload distribution for data processing

A host is configured to communicate with a storage controller over a first storage area network. A request is transmitted from the host to the storage controller to provide read diagnostic parameters of a second storage area network that is used to mirror data controlled by the storage controller to another storage controller. The host receives the read diagnostic parameters of the second storage area network from the storage controller.

Generation of host requests to a storage controller for read diagnostic parameters for a data mirroring configuration

A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: storing records in an input data buffer, where each of the records include a key which is appended to payload data in the respective record. Moreover, for each of the records: shearing the key associated with the record from the payload data, normalizing the sheared key, and storing the normalized sheared key in a first target area of memory. A determination is made as to whether a size of the payload data in the record is outside a predetermine range, and in response to determining that the size of the payload data in the record is outside the predetermine range, the payload data is stored in a second target area of memory. A data locator is also appended to the normalized sheared key in the first target area of memory to form a sheared record.

Selectively shearing data when manipulating data during record processing

A computer-implemented method for capturing system memory dumps includes receiving, by a diagnostic data component, an instruction to capture a system memory dump associated with a computer process being executed by a computing system comprising one or more processing units, the system memory dump comprising data from a plurality of memory locations associated with the computer process. In response to determining that the system memory dump satisfies a predetermined criterion, the diagnostic data component sends a request for a computing resource boost from the computing system. Further, in response to the request for the computing resource boost being granted, the diagnostic data component uses additional computing resources from the one or more processing units to store the data from the plurality of memory locations in the system memory dump and executing the backlogged operations that were halted due to the system memory dump capture.

Minimizing impact of first failure data capture on computing system using recovery process boost

A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: processing records by, for each of the records: shearing the key associated with the record from the payload data, normalizing the sheared key, and storing the normalized sheared key in a first target area of memory. A determination is made whether a size of the payload data is outside a first predetermined range. In response to determining that the size of the payload data is outside the first predetermined range, the payload data is stored in a second target area of memory, and a data locator is appended to the normalized sheared key. Furthermore, in response to determining that a storage capacity of the memory is outside a second predetermined range, some of the payload data is transferred to external physical storage. Moreover, an external list is integrated with each of the data locators that correspond to the transferred payload data.

Selectively evicting data from internal memory during record processing

Aspects of the invention include receiving a request to obtain data located in an address space to diagnose a computer error. It is determined whether a threshold number of resources are available to obtain the data. Based on determining that the threshold number of resources is available to obtain the data, a priority level of the computer program is assessed. A number of threads to assign to a workload to obtain the data from the address space is determined based at least in part on the priority level of the computer program. The determined number of threads are assigned to the workload. The workload is divided into a number of parallel units equal to the number of threads assigned to the workload. The parallel units of the workload are executed by the assigned threads to capture the data in the address space. The captured data is stored.

Prioritizing and parallelizing the capture of data for debugging computer programs

Embodiments of dynamically increasing the resources for a partition to compensate for an input/output (I/O) recovery event are provided. An aspect includes allocating a first set of resources to a partition that is hosted on a data processing system. Another aspect includes operating the partition on the data processing system using the first set of resources. Another aspect includes, based on detection of an input/output (I/O) recovery event associated with operation of the partition, determining a compensation for the I/O recovery event. Another aspect includes allocating a second set of resources in addition to the first set of resources to the partition, the second set of resources corresponding to the compensation for the I/O recovery event. Another aspect includes operating the partition on the data processing system using the first set of resources and the second set of resources.

An aspect includes determining, via a processor, context attributes of a storage. Data address translation (DAT) tables are created, via the processor, to map virtual addresses to real addresses within the storage. When detecting, via the processor, that a context attribute of the storage has changed, and the DAT tables are updated based at least in part on the changed context attributes of the storage.

Dynamically joining and splitting dynamic address translation (DAT) tables based on operational context

A storage controller is configured to communicate with a host over a first storage area network. Data controlled via the storage controller is mirrored to another storage controller over a second storage area network. The storage controller receives a request from the host to provide read diagnostic parameters of the second storage area network. In response to receiving the request, the storage controller secures the read diagnostic parameters of the second storage area network. The storage controller transmits the read diagnostic parameters of the second storage area network to the host.

Communication of diagnostic parameters of a data mirroring configuration from a storage controller to a host

A non-limiting example computer-implemented method includes receiving instructions to switch an operational context of a dynamic address translation (DAT) structure to a new operational context. It is determined if context switching has been enabled within the DAT structure. Based on determining that context switching is enabled, it is determined if the new operational context of the DAT structure is different than a current operational context of the DAT structure. It is chosen whether to switch to a full operational context based on the new operational context being different than the current operational context. If the full operational context is used, a full space DAT structure is set up and a private space bit is set to OFF, and if the full operational context is not used, a partial space DAT structure is set up and the private space bit is set to ON.

Private space control within a common address space

A method for accelerating transaction execution across geographically dispersed clusters is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method includes receiving a request to read data in a data replication system comprising a primary storage system and a secondary storage system in a synchronous mirroring relationship with the primary storage system. The method determines whether at least one of the following conditions is true: (1) the secondary storage system is closer from a communication standpoint; and (2) a high speed communication technology is available to communicate with the secondary storage system that is not available to communicate with the primary storage system. In the event either of the conditions is true, the method directs the request to the secondary storage system. In the event neither of the conditions is true, the method directs the request to the primary storage system. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.
