Embodiments of the present invention provide improved systems and methods for adjusting system tests based on detected interference. In one embodiment, a system comprises a host unit; a system test controller to control the performance of system tests, wherein a system test to detect the reception of an interfering signal comprises disabling the generation of tones for transmission through the communication system. The system also comprises multiple remote antenna units communicatively coupled to the system test controller to transmit signals to multiple wireless terminals, wherein a remote antenna unit comprises: an antenna; a transceiver, coupled to the antenna; a signal detector that measures reverse and forward power of signals transmitted to and received from the antenna; and a microcontroller to control the antenna unit, wherein upon receiving a command to perform interference testing, the microcontroller adjusts a subsequent test based on measurements of the reverse power by the signal detector.

Systems and methods for adjusting system tests based on detected interference

One embodiment is directed to a method (and system and apparatus) for determining timing for a time division duplex (TDD) signal in a distributed antenna system (DAS). The method comprises (and the system and apparatus are configured for) grouping power samples of a downlink portion of the TDD signal into blocks corresponding to a respective time period, comparing power samples of the blocks to a power threshold, assigning the blocks as ON or OFF based on a number of power samples in a respective block that are above the power threshold, identifying a start of a downlink burst in the TDD signal as an ON block preceded by at least a minimum number of consecutive OFF blocks, and controlling at least one component in the DAS based on the start of the downlink burst.

TDD timing recovery in a distributed antenna system

A communication system includes a master host unit that communicates wireless spectrum with a service provider interface using analog spectrum. Master host unit communicates digitized spectrum in N-bit words over a digital communication link. Master host unit converts between analog spectrum and N-bit words of digitized spectrum. Communication system includes hybrid expansion unit coupled to master host unit by digital communication link. Hybrid expansion unit communicates N-bit words of digitized spectrum with master host unit across digital communication link. Hybrid expansion unit converts between N-bit words of digitized spectrum and analog spectrum. Hybrid expansion unit communicates analog spectrum across analog communication link to analog remote antenna unit. Analog remote antenna unit communicates wireless signals using first antenna. Communication system further includes a switch in a data path between service provider interface and antenna. The switch selects between transmit path and receive path in response to switching control signal.

Distributed antenna system using time division duplexing scheme

Embodiments described by the present disclosure provide improved systems and methods for determining the location of a mobile device. In one embodiment, a system comprises a distributed antenna system (DAS) configured to relay signals to and from the mobile device. Further, the DAS comprises a hub unit; and multiple remote antenna units coupled to the hub unit, wherein signals relayed between the remote antenna units and the hub unit are delayed such that different signal paths between the remote antenna units and the hub unit have different delay times. The system also comprises a base station coupled to the hub unit, wherein the base station receives the signals from the hub unit and determines the delay of signals transmitted between the mobile device and the base station, wherein the system determines the location of the mobile device by using the delay for RF pattern matching.

Systems and methods for location determination

A method of switching a communication device between an uplink communication path and a downlink communication path is provided. The method measures a power level of signals on at least one radio frequency for one of the uplink communication path and the downlink communication path. The measured power level is compared with a threshold power level. Switching between an uplink circuit and a downlink circuit is based on the comparison between the measured power level and the threshold power level.

Method and apparatus for switching in a TDD system

One embodiment is directed to a distributed antenna system in which a setting for automatic gain control functionality in at least one unit included in the system (for example, in a hub unit or a remote unit) is determined by interpolating between two detected levels measured at that unit while the automatic gain control functionality is operating in two respective predetermined configurations and by interpolating between two target levels that are associated with the two respective predetermined configurations. In one example, the intersection of the two resulting interpolations is used to determine the setting for the automatic gain control functionality.

Automatic gain control configuration for a wideband distributed antenna system

A method of determining a boundary of a subframe in a time division duplexing (TDD) system is provided. The method detects a power level of a signal on at least one radio frequency, the signal comprising at least one subframe. A time-domain correlation is done on the detected signal with a first reference signal, wherein the first reference signal represents at least one subframe. The location in time of a boundary of the at least one subframe of the detected signal is determined based on the correlation of the detected signal and the first reference signal.

Method and apparatus for frame detection in a communications system

A communication system comprises a first unit; and a second unit communicatively coupled to the first unit. The first unit is operable to receive a first original radio frequency signal via a first interface and the second unit is operable to receive a second original radio frequency signal via a second interface. The second unit is operable to output a first reproduced radio frequency signal via the second interface, the first reproduced radio frequency signal being derived from the first original radio frequency signal. The first unit is operable to output a second reproduced radio frequency signal via one of the first interface and a third interface, the second reproduced radio frequency signal being derived from the second original radio frequency signal. The first interface is operable as a simplex interface when the second reproduced radio frequency signal is output via the third interface and as a duplex interface when the second reproduced radio frequency signal is output via the first interface.

System and method for configurable time-division duplex interface

A method for determining an end of a first period in which signals are communicated in a first direction is provided. The method comprises sampling a signal for a period of time up to at least as long as the longest expected length of the first period to obtain a sampled signal. The sampled signal is integrated to obtain an integrated power curve. A reference line is subtracted from the integrated power curve to obtain a rotated power curve. A peak in the rotated power curve is selected as an end of the first period.

Method and apparatus for determining an end of a subframe in a TDD system

A method for transporting wireless communication signals between a base station hotel and remote cell sites with separately digitized RF carrier signals is provided. Separately digitized carriers are transmitted over a digital network between the hotel and the remote sites, remaining in digital format until reaching terminal antenna units. At the antenna units, downlink digital signals are converted to analog RF signals and transmitted, while uplink analog signals are received and converted to digital signals. A corresponding system comprising a base station hotel, at least one remote site, and a digital data network connecting the hotel to the remote site is provided. The hotel includes a plurality of base stations and a digital hub for interfacing the hotel to the network. The remote site includes a set of antenna units connected via a local data link to a network access node for interfacing to the network.
