Computing system with information storage mechanism and method of operation thereof

A common consolidation management application provides an interface to the multiple different system management software applications and at least one user input console. An adapter in each of the system management software applications supports communication with the consolidation application. A system administrator issues requests to different system management software applications using a common interface provided by the consolidation application. The consolidation application can be installed over an existing complex of computer systems managed by different management applications, without modifying the managed systems or replacing the management applications.

An extensible framework provides a unified interface for data manipulation in a dynamic object-based format. A data access layer of the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Graphical User Interface (GUI) component uses ODBC to read and write files. Four abstractions implement the framework. These are (1) a CDatabaseManager class that provides access to data stored in a database; (2) a CSpecializedFile class which composes a CDatabaseManager that abstracts the management of reading and writing to database files and provides a unified interface for use by accessors. If the base class functionality of the CSpecializedFile class is not sufficient then derived specialized file classes are implemented to override the CSpecializedFile commit method and update the file in a different-fashion and/or implement specialized get/set methods by column data item and data type; (3) a CRecordArray class which manages vectored access to information stored as objects in a CColumnData class; and (4) a CColumnData object which manages changes made to the information and saves it when requested.

System and method for data manipulation in a dynamic object-based format

A specification language allows a user to define platform-independent user interface panels without detailed knowledge of complex computer programming languages. The specification language is referred to herein as a Panel Definition Markup Language (PDML), which defines tags that are used in similar fashion to those defined in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), that allow a user to specify the exact location of components displayed in the panel. A graphical editor allows the creation and modification of platform-independent user interface panels without programming directly in the specification language. A conversion tool may be used to convert platform-specific user interface panels to corresponding platform-independent user interface panels. A help generator tool also facilitates the generation of context-sensitive help for a user interface panel.

Apparatus and computer implemented method for process modeling using both a web server and a workflow server in process definition. During buildtime, a process definition in the language of some workflow process modeler is fed to transform f(p), which provides a translate process definition into a hypertext markup language (HTML) representation of the workflow process. A user utilizing the facilities of an HTTP server may operate a web browser to request that HTTP server provide the HTML process definition to enable the user to create, or read and modify, the process definition as desired. The result is then fed through an inverse transform f'(p) to a workflow server in the language of that server, for invocation and execution during runtime of the programs defined during buildtime.

Method and apparatus for building and running workflow process models

A console operates a computer which includes a multiplicity of processors. The console displays an activate icon, a grouping icon and a multiplicity of icons which represent the multiplicity of processors, respectively. The console supports the definition of a group of the processors based on user selection of two or more of the processor icons and the grouping icon. In response to the definition, the console displays a group icon which represents the selected processors. The console also supports activation of the group of processors by selecting the group icon and the activate icon. After the group of processors is activated, the console can still display the group icon. Thus, further action can be taken on the group as a whole without redefining the group. A second group of processors containing one or more of the processors of the first group and one or more other processors can also be defined as described above. The console displays both group icons. If an attempt is made to activate the first group of processors using the corresponding group icon and the activate icon, and one of the processors which is shared by both groups fails to activate, then the console modifies the display of both group icons to indicate that at least one processor in each of the groups has failed.
