A therapy system for applying an electrical signal to an internal anatomical feature of a patient includes an implantable component and an external component. The implantable component is configured to receive a selected therapy program and a selected therapy schedule from the external component. The implantable component is adapted to be selectively configured into one of a training mode and a delivery mode. The implantable component is configured to apply therapy to the internal anatomical feature in accordance with the selected therapy program and the selected therapy schedule when configured in the delivery mode. The implantable component is configured to simulate application of therapy when configured in the training mode.

Implantable therapy system having multiple operating modes

Embodiments of an implantable medical device includes a loop antenna wound about an inner housing. The loop antenna may form a partial winding, a complete winding, or multiple windings about the inner housing. One or more additional antennae may be capacitively coupled to the loop antenna external to the inner housing to increase efficiency and decrease Return Loss Response of the implantable device. The additional antenna may be balanced or unbalanced antennae.

Antenna arrangements for implantable therapy device

A method and apparatus in an apnea detector monitor impedance pneumographic respiratory signals and heart rate of a patient. Magnitudes of excursions of the respiratory signals are monitored to resolve respiratory events, i.e. breaths, inhalations and exhalations. A counter will reach a threshold count and trigger an alarm if a selected interval lapses without a respiratory event being detected. If a respiratory event is detected, as by detecting successive peaks, a peak or a valley of the respiratory signal, the timer is reset. The method and apparatus reject artifact that would otherwise appear as breathing cycles in order to prevent false negative indications of apnea. Cyclically occurring peaks are rejected as being indicative of a breath if they are in a selected magnitude range compared to that of a normal breath and they approximate the patient's heart rate. Successive peaks due to sighs or of a baseline change are measured for average rate of change over the period it takes for the waveform to decrease from the second peak by of a selected level generally corresponding to of a normal inhalation or exhalation. They are rejected as artifact if the change is too slow. Consequently, sighs are not misinterpreted as breaths.

Apnea detector with artifact rejection

A redundant alarm system including a central controller that interfaces with a first alarm, a second alarm, a visual indicator and an acoustic sensor. When an alarm condition exists, the controller activates the primary alarm causing the primary alarm to generate an audible first alarm signal. The audible first alarm signal is transmitted from the primary alarm to the acoustical sensor. The acoustical sensor detects the audible first alarm signal and transduces the audible first alarm signal into a first feedback signal that is relayed to the controller. If the controller does not receive the first feedback signal from the acoustical sensor within a predetermined time after activating the primary alarm, the controller activates the secondary alarm and the visual indicator.
