A system includes a control system. The control system includes a coherence derivation system configured to derive a coherence between respective outputs of each of a plurality of combustors coupled to a gas turbine system, and a phase derivation system configured to derive a phase difference between the respective outputs of each of the plurality of combustors coupled to the gas turbine system. The control system is configured to derive an indication of an impending lean blowout (LBO) or an actual LBO of at least one of the plurality of combustors based at least in part on the coherence derivation, the phase derivation, or a combination thereof.

Methods and systems for detecting lean blowout in gas turbine systems

Methods of determining a desired sensor probe location in a closed loop emissions control (CLEC) system of a gas turbine engine are provided. One method includes determining, at different locations, a plurality of temperature contour profiles for exhaust flowing through an exhaust duct, selecting an emissions component entrained in the exhaust to be measured, and determining a desired sensor probe installation location based on the emissions component to be measured and based on the plurality of temperature contour profiles.

Systems and methods of determining a flame state within a combustor of a turbine engine make use of characteristics of an output pressure of a compressor of the turbine engine and a temperature of exhaust gases of the turbine engine to make a determination. If the first and/or second derivatives of the output pressure of the compressor and the first and/or second derivatives of the exhaust gas temperature of the turbine engine are all positive during at least portions of a predetermined period of time, one can determine that a flame has ignited in the combustor. If those values are negative during at least portions of a predetermined period of time, one can determine that a flame has been extinguished in the combustor.

A method for controlling NOx emissions from a gas turbine having a fuel adjustment system may include setting an outer nozzle fuel flow to achieve a desired level of combustion dynamics for at least one of a plurality of combustion chambers, determining a delta adjustment value for a center nozzle fuel flow that will result in a desired level of NOx emissions from the gas turbine, and adjusting the center nozzle fuel flow according to the determined delta adjustment value to obtain the desired level of NOx emissions from the gas turbine.

In an exemplary embodiment, the method includes determining acoustical frequency data for the combustor, determining a combustor flame temperature based on the acoustical frequency data, determining an existing fuel/air ratio in the combustor based on the combustor flame temperature, and comparing the existing fuel/ratio to a lean blow out fuel/air ratio. A lean blow out condition for the combustor is indicated when the existing fuel/air ratio is about equal to the lean blow out fuel/air ratio.

The system may comprise a center fuel flow and a plurality of outer fuel flows for each of a plurality of combustion chambers. An outer fuel flow is set to achieve a desired level of combustion dynamics for at least one of the plurality of combustion chambers. A delta adjustment value is determined for the center fuel flow that will result in a desired level of NOx emissions from the turbine, and for adjusting the center fuel flow according to the determined delta adjustment value to obtain the desired level of NOx emissions from the turbine.
