In one example, a fuel system includes a plurality of canisters with a fuel tank isolation valve (FTIV) configured to control a fluid coupling between each of the plurality of canisters and a fuel tank. The FTIV is actuated based on one or more of a fuel tank pressure and a load of each of the plurality of canisters.

In one example, the methods and systems include combining a plurality of carbon filled fuel vapor storage canisters in parallel and series to capture fuel vapors that may be generated via a heavy duty vehicle.

Method and system for diagnosing working capacity of carbon filled canisters

Methods and systems are provided for an evaporative emission fuel (EVAP) system. In one example, a method for the EVAP system includes loading canisters in parallel sequentially during a refueling event. The method further includes switching loading from one canister to another in response to a fuel level during the refueling event.

A fuel vapor recirculation system includes a filler neck adapted to receive a refueling nozzle that dispenses fuel into the filler neck. A fuel tank receives fuel from the filler neck through an inlet check valve. The check valve is disposed in the fuel inlet opening and is normally closed. The check valve opens when fuel is dispensed into the fuel tank. The check valve defines a vent hole that is always open. The fuel tank also includes a fuel limiting vent valve and a grade limit vent valve. A fuel vapor cannister collects fuel vapor and selectively supplies fuel vapor to an intake manifold of a vehicle. The fuel vapor recirculation manifold receives fuel vapor only from the fuel limiting vent valve and the grade limit vent valve in the fuel tank and does not receive fuel vapor directly from the filler neck.

Methods and systems are provided for an evaporative emission fuel (EVAP) system. In one example, a method for the EVAP system includes adjusting a vapor flow path to a plurality of canisters based on a canister load and a vehicle shut-off event occurring. The method further including flowing vapors to a less loaded canister later than to a more loaded canister.

Methods and systems are provided for an evaporative emissions control system for onboard refueling vapor recovery of a heavy duty vehicle. In one example, a method may include, in response to greater than a threshold change in a fuel level of a fuel tank fluidically coupled to at least two fuel vapor storage canisters of an evaporative emissions control system during a refueling event, performing a canister working capacity diagnostic on each of the at least two fuel vapor storage canisters by measuring an exhaust gas air-fuel ratio (AFR) while independently purging each of the at least two fuel vapor storage canisters. In this way, the working capacity of each fuel vapor storage canister may be separately assessed in order to more accurate identify degradation of the working capacity.

Canister capacity diagnostics for evaporative emissions control system in heavy duty vehicles

Methods and systems are provided for an evaporative emissions control system for onboard refueling vapor recovery of a heavy duty vehicle. In one example, a method may include adjusting flow among at least two canisters during canister purging, where the at least two canisters are arranged in a parallel loading and unloading flow direction, to increase flow through a higher loaded canister. Flow may be adjusted using a first valve coupled to the first canister, a second valve coupled to the second canister, and so on for n number of canisters and n number of valves, and a balancing valve used to selectively couple the at least two canisters to a fuel tank.

Onboard refueling vapor recovery for heavy duty applications

Methods and systems are provided for conducting an evaporative emissions test on a fuel system and an emissions control system in a vehicle. In one example, in response to an indication that a vehicle parking condition may result in the isolation of the fuel system from the emissions control system via the unintentional closing of fuel tank valves, a vehicle's active suspension system may be employed in order to level the vehicle a determined amount such that the fuel system isolation issues may be mitigated prior to an evaporative emissions test procedure. In this way, the entire fuel system and emissions control system may be diagnosed for potential undesired emissions, and potential violations of regulatory requirements for evaporative emissions testing may be reduced.

Evaporative emissions detection method with vehicle self leveling suspension compensation

A dual path fuel vapor purge system is disclosed for an engine having a turbocharger or a super. The purge system includes a canister configured to collect fuel vapor from a fuel tank. A canister purge valve is provided downstream from the canister. An ejector valve receives fuel vapors from the canister through the canister purge valve. A first vapor purge path directs the fuel vapor to an intake manifold of the engine. A second vapor purge path directs fuel vapor to an air induction system. A check valve downstream from the ejector valve receives the fuel vapor from the ejector and supplies the fuel vapor to the air induction system. Boost flow opens the check valve when the air induction system is in operation to boost the engine and closes the check valve when the engine is in operation with normal aspiration or when a leak is detected.

Dual path purge system for a turbocharged engine

Methods and systems are provided for improving efficiency of purging a fuel vapor storage canister included in an evaporative emissions control system of a vehicle. In one example, a method includes controlling a duty cycle of a canister purge valve to purge fuel vapors stored in a fuel vapor storage canister to an engine of the vehicle, and adjusting a flow rate at which the fuel vapors are purged to the engine independently of the duty cycle by controlling a magnitude of a voltage supplied to the canister purge valve during the purging.

Systems and methods for controlling purge flow from a vehicle fuel vapor storage canister

Methods and systems are provided for conducting a fuel tank diagnostic. In one example, a method comprises sealing a fuel tank of a vehicle, retrieving data related to fuel tank pressure from a crowd of vehicles, and indicating the fuel tank of the vehicle being diagnosed is degraded responsive to data related to fuel tank pressure from the crowd insufficiently correlating with a set of data related to fuel tank pressure from the vehicle. In this way, fuel tank degradation may be indicated without coupling the fuel tank of the vehicle to atmosphere, which may reduce a release of undesired evaporative emissions to atmosphere.

Systems and methods for fuel tank diagnostics

An engine coolant temperature at an expected time of activation of a vehicle is predicted. Upon determining that the predicted engine coolant temperature is greater than an ambient air temperature by a temperature threshold, a vehicle component is actuated at a time determined based on the expected time of activation.
