A process that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, selecting a media content item and constructing a tout message based on the media content item. Information associated with the media content item is included within the tout message, which includes a selectable link. The selectable link includes instructions for directing equipment of a subscriber to access the media content item without the subscriber providing additional input. A group of communication devices associated with the subscriber is identified, and the tout message is transmitted to a communication device of the group. Other embodiments are disclosed.

A method and apparatus for fulfilling purchases is disclosed. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure can include, for example, a portable communication device having a controller element that receives from an online system a barcode image as an object of acknowledgment of a product purchased from said online system, and presents on a display of the portable communication device said barcode image to complete a purchase fulfillment process by way of at least one among a visual inspection of the barcode image by a merchant employee and processing of said barcode image by a point of sale (POS) device. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a process that identifies identified media content sources based on a consumption pattern. The identified media content sources include alternative media content items and second metadata associated with the items. A match is determined between first metadata associated with media content requested for presentation at a media device and the second metadata. Matched alternative media content items are identified based on the match, and media content previously consumed by the media device is determined. A tout message is constructed identifying alternative media content items that do not include the media content previously consumed by the media device. A first request for content information related to a second media program is received from a mobile device during the presentation of the first media program. The content information is provided to the mobile device concurrently with the presentation of the first media program. The first media program is buffered at a digital video recorder while providing the content information, and the digital video recorder is directed to record the second media program in response to receiving a selection from the mobile device.
