A modular polyaxial bone screw that incorporates a threaded screw including a head portion and a tulip assembly that selectively 'snaps' and locks onto the head portion of the threaded screw in a desired orientation. Thus, the threaded screw may be placed in bone before the tulip assembly is engaged onto the head portion of the threaded screw and a rod is disposed and secured there through using a locking cap, thereby locking the tulip assembly onto the head portion of the threaded screw in the desired orientation.

Modular polyaxial bone screw

A surgical implant device for controlling the movement between a first bone or tissue portion and a second bone or tissue portion includes a first elongated member connectable for movement with the first bone or tissue portion and a second elongated member connectable for movement with the first bone or tissue portion. The first elongated member and the second elongated member are connected by a flexible joint configured to allow the first elongated member to pivot, move axially, and/or rotate relative to the second elongated member. At least one resilient member is associated with the flexible joint to resist relative movement of the first elongated member relative to the second elongated member.

Apparatuses and methods for inserting elongated fixation elements into screw implants include one or components for visualizing the insertion process from a unique vantage point. One apparatus features a steering apparatus for adjusting the position of a receiver element on a screw implant, so that an elongated fixation element, such as a rod, can be inserted through a transverse passage in the receiver element. The steering apparatus may include an extension tube and a steering control member coupled to the extension tube. The extension tube may be configured for coupling to the receiver element, and the steering control member may be configured for coupling to the extension tube. The steering control member may include an opening for receiving an endoscope. The endoscope may be used to visually monitor the elongated fixation element as it is inserted into the transverse passage of the receiver element.

Apparatus and method for visualizing insertion of a fixation element into an implant

A surgical implant device that controls the relative movement between a first bone or tissue portion and a second bone or tissue portion. The device has a first connector member connected for movement with the first bone or tissue portion and a second connector member connected for movement with the second bone or tissue portion. A biasing member pivotally connects the first connector member to the second connector member and resists the relative rotation between the first connector member and the second connector member.
