A bushing for a steering column rake bracket assembly includes a flange portion. The bushing also includes a tubular segment having an inner wall defining a central hole and an outer wall. The outer wall of the tubular segment includes a first flat outer surface. The outer wall also includes a second flat outer surface. The outer wall further includes a first curved end surface connecting the first flat outer surface and the second flat outer surface. The outer wall yet further includes a second curved end surface connecting the first flat outer surface and the second flat outer surface.

Rake bracket coupling assembly for steering column

A steering column jacket assembly for a steering system of motor vehicle includes a first steering jacket extending along a longitudinal axis and a second steering jacket arranged for telescoping movement relative to the first steering jacket along the longitudinal axis. A guide bracket is fixed to the second steering jacket. The guide bracket has a guide bushing disposed between the guide bracket and the first steering jacket, the guide bushing self-centering the first steering jacket and the second steering jacket relative to one another to inhibit relative rotation between the first steering jacket and the second steering jacket.

Self-centering telescope guidance mechanism for adjustable columns

An axially adjustable steering column assembly includes an upper jacket. And a lower jacket. The steering column assembly further includes a column mounting bracket, wherein the lower jacket is operatively coupled to the column mounting bracket and translates relative to the column mounting bracket, wherein the column mounting bracket defines a first set of tapered rail slots, each of the first set of tapered rail slots disposed on opposite sides of the column mounting bracket and extending longitudinally along the column mounting bracket, wherein the lower jacket defines a second set of tapered rail slots, each of the second set of tapered rail slots disposed on opposite sides of the lower jacket and extending longitudinally along the lower jacket. The steering column assembly yet further includes a first pair of sliding wedge bushings disposed within the first set of tapered rail slots.

Externally translating, internally telescoping steering column assembly

In accordance with one aspect of the invention, a steering column assembly is provided. The steering column assembly comprises a steering column extending along a longitudinal axis between a first end and a second end. The steering column includes a lower portion extending from the second end, a middle portion connected to and axially moveable with respect to the lower portion, and an upper portion connected to and axially moveable with respect to the middle portion and extending towards the first end. A component is connected to the steering column adjacent to the lower portion and at least one axial actuator is connected between the component and the upper portion.

A method of assembling a steering column assembly includes pressing a first pivot bushing into a first rake bracket first opening of a first rake bracket and inserting a first pivot fastener into the first pivot bushing and into a first mounting bracket opening of a first mounting bracket arm of a mounting bracket. The method further includes displacing material of the first mounting bracket arm with first splines of the first pivot fastener to form first mating splines within the first mounting bracket opening.

A rake pivot assembly for a steering column assembly includes a pair of flanges spaced from each other and oriented parallel to each other, each of the flanges defining an elongated opening. The assembly also includes a pair of lower brackets, each of the lower brackets having a portion thereof fitting over one of the pair of flanges. The assembly further includes a pair of alignment bushings, each of the pair of alignment bushings at least partially disposed within one of the elongated openings and positioned between one of the lower brackets and one of the flanges. A power actuator assembly for a steering column assembly is provided. The power actuator assembly include an electric motor. Also included is a leadscrew. Further included is a gear arrangement operatively coupled to the electric motor, the gear arrangement driving rotation of the leadscrew. Yet further included is a nut threaded to the leadscrew, rotation of the leadscrew actuating linear motion of the nut relative to the leadscrew, the nut operatively coupled to a moveable portion of the steering column assembly to actuate motion of the moveable portion. Also included is a leadscrew housing, the leadscrew extending axially through the leadscrew housing. Further included is a helical bushing disposed between a radially inner surface of the leadscrew housing and a radially outer surface of the leadscrew.

A steering column assembly that includes an upper jacket, a drive bracket, and an energy absorption assembly. The drive bracket is coupled to the upper jacket. The energy absorption assembly includes a first member and a second member. The first member has a first member body extending between a first member first end and a first member second end. A receiving area is defined between the first member body and the second member body.

A rake adjustment mechanism of a steering column assembly includes a lower jacket defining a first tapered slot and a second tapered slot, the first and second tapered slots disposed on opposing sides of the lower jacket. Also included is a rake bracket coupled to the lower jacket. Further included is a first rake guide and a second rake guide, each rake guide a single, integrally formed component and disposed between the lower jacket and rake bracket, the first rake guide disposed at least partially within the first tapered slot and the second rake guide disposed at least partially within the second tapered slot, each rake guide translatable within the tapered slot in an axial direction of the lower jacket. Yet further included is a rake bolt extending through the lower jacket, the rake bracket and the first and second rake guides.

The inner race and the outer race define an annular cavity in which the plurality of ball bearings is disposed.
