An apparatus for extracting organic compounds from plant materials using subcritical or supercritical carbon dioxide is described. The apparatus has a sealable pressure chamber into which carbon dioxide dry ice and the plant materials are inserted, the pressure chamber, once sealed, self-pressurizing as the container and contents are warmed to a chosen temperature, converting the solid COto liquid, or to a super-critical fluid as the temperature and pressure are raised above the Critical Point. The chamber can be rotated when subcritical COliquid is employed to improve mixing between the liquid and the plant material. After a suitable extraction time, the carbon dioxide solvent containing the extracted material is directed into a separator such that the carbon dioxide and extracted material can be effectively separated, thereby avoiding significant quantities of viscous and waxy extracted materials remaining in the chamber and valves after the carbon dioxide solvent is warmed and allowed to exit the chamber.

A viewing device synchronizer includes a viewing mechanism for viewing an object and a linking mechanism for linking a plurality of viewing mechanisms so that each is capable of viewing the object simultaneously. A movement mechanism moves a single viewing mechanism in any direction in order to view an object. A control mechanism moves any of the plurality of viewing mechanisms if the single viewing mechanism is moved. A directional pointing mechanism controls one or a plurality of the viewing mechanisms. A communication mechanism sends directional information for controlling the operation of the plurality of viewing mechanism from a single viewing mechanism.

Viewing device synchronizer

A down-hole jet pumping apparatus and method for removing accumulated water in a small diameter well bore are described. Chosen fluids are pumped under high pressure from a surface pump through a 3-way valve into a tube disposed in a well bore. The jet pumping apparatus includes a down-hole accumulator connected to an eductor. The high-pressure fluid is stored in the accumulator and may be released to the surface reservoir by the control valve through the tube along with the fluid to be pumped drawn into the eductor. When the accumulator is exhausted, the control valve again directs high-pressure fluid from the surface pump to the accumulator until a chosen pressure is achieved in the accumulator. The fluid pressure in the accumulator is maintained using a gas-charged metal bellows. Hydraulically driven jet boosters are described for increasing the fluid pressure along the tube in deep wells.

An apparatus and method for detecting wear of a surface of an object or part, and directing the measured amount of wear to an interface such that an operator may be apprised of this value are described. One end of the sacrificial wear sensor hereof is disposed such that it experiences the same wear as the surface of the part to be monitored. One embodiment of the present sensing element includes a permanent magnet fixedly sandwiched between two plates having high magnetic permeability material, wherein magnetic poles are oriented perpendicular to the plates. The plates extend beyond the magnet on the side thereof opposite the wear edge, forming thereby an air gap such that magnetic flux is concentrated in the plates with the magnetic circuit being completed through the air gap between the plate extensions. A magnetic flux monitoring device may be disposed in the air gap of the sensing element for measuring the magnetic flux density in the gap. As the magnet and the plates of the sensing element are worn away by the same mechanism that causes wear on the part being monitored, the magnet volume decreases, thereby decreasing the flux density in the air gap. This decrease in flux density can be related to the wear of the surface under investigation.

Magnetic sensor for determining wear

A device for marking a location. The device coming in two separate pieces, namely a ground stake and a marking post. The ground stake configured for insertion into a ground surface. The marking post configured for attachment to the ground stake. The post is preferably removable from the stake so that when livestock are present, if they uproot or displace the marking post portion of the device, the ground stake remains in the ground still marking the location. If a survey crew or other individual is at the marking location after the post has been removed, they can replace the post (or insert a replacement post) to return the device to its full functionality.

Damage resistant marking stake

A towline fuse device for use in a towing system with a towing vehicle and a towline is provided. The towline fuse device comprises a fuse mechanism for failing at a predetermined level of tensile force, the fuse mechanism mounted between the towing vehicle and the towline wherein the predetermined level of failure of the fuse mechanism is less than the towing ratings of the towing system. The strain energy in the towline is then harmlessly dissipated in the towline fuse device.

A combustion apparatus has an exhaust system, a fuel-supply system, and an air-supply system. The ratio of fuel-to-air supplied to the apparatus is adjustable in either direction in response to control information. A temperature signal is developed which has a value proportional to the combustion-produced temperature. A first sample of that temperature signal selected during a first time interval is compared with a second sample of the temperature signal developed during a later time interval. The comparison serves to produce the control information that causes adjustment of the fuel-to-air ratio in the direction seeking a maximum of combustion-produced temperature. Digital logic circuitry is specifically utilized for the purpose of producing the desired control information.
