Systems, methods and apparatus are provided through which a safety switch arrangement is assembled to prevent false activation of a subsystem in a medical system. In some embodiments, the safety switching arrangement comprises at least a first and a second type of switching element. In some embodiments, the first and the second type of switch each have an output that is processed by a processor, controller, or logic unit to produce an output signal for activating or deactivating a subsystem in the medical system.

Redundant switch mechanism for safety-critical applications in medical systems

A technique is provided for improving performance of a digital detector system, such as in a digital X-ray system. Improved frame rates and enhanced resolutions are achieved by selecting a field of view of interest and processing pixel information only for the selected field of view. Data from a series of rows of the detector are simultaneously processed by restoring charge to pixels of a row, while digitizing signals from a previously recharged row, and transmitting digital signals for a third row for which the signals were previously digitized. Scrubbing of rows outside the selected field of view may be performed as signals are detected and processes for rows within the selected field of view.

Method and apparatus for increasing the data acquisition rate in a digital detector

A technique is described for detecting defects such as short circuits in a device such as a discrete pixel detector used in a digital x-ray system. The technique employs test circuits associated with each row driver of the detector. The test circuits are enabled by a test enable input signal, and the row driver sequentially enables the rows of the detector, along with the individual test circuits. In a test sequence, output signals from the row test circuits are monitored to identify whether a defect, such as a short circuit, is likely to exist in the row or row driver. The test circuitry adds only minimal area and complexity to the row driver function, providing a high degree of test coverage at a low cost, with minimal likelihood of test circuitry-induced failures.

Apparatus and method for detecting defects in a discrete picture element detector circuit

A discrete pixel detector is charge compensated in a plurality of scan modes. In each scan mode a different number of rows of the detector is enabled, and signals produced at discrete pixel locations are read at the detector columns. Charges due to parasitic capacitance between the rows and columns are compensated and balanced by applying a compensation voltage to rows not enabled. The number of rows receiving the compensation voltage varies depending upon the number of enabled rows in each scan mode. A single compensation voltage may be used by applying the compensation voltage to a fixed multiple of the number of enabled rows in each scan mode.
