A cable routing system includes a longitudinally-expanding body positionable within an IT rack having a frame and two or more NEMA rails coupled to the frame. A pair of mounting brackets are positioned proximate each distal end of the longitudinal-expanding body and configured to directly engage the frame of the IT rack. A cable routing tray is longitudinally affixed to the longitudinally-expanding body and configured to rout cables longitudinally along at least a portion of the longitudinally-expanding body. One or more vertical radiused supports are configured to define a minimum vertical bend radius for cables routed through the cable routing tray.

Cable routing system

A data storage interface for coupling data between processors and a bank of disk. The interface includes a plurality of first directors coupled to the processors and a plurality of second directors coupled to the bank of disk drives. A cache memory is coupled between the plurality of first directors and the plurality of second directors. The interface includes a pair of independent power busses. At least one of the first or second directors is coupled to the pair of independent power busses. One portion of the disk drives in the bank is connected to only a first one of the pair of power buses and a different portion of the disk drives is connected to only the other one of the pair of power buses. A power circuit includes a pair of input terminals, each one being electrically connected to a corresponding one of the pair of independent power busses. The circuit includes an output terminal. A pair of switching transistor sections is provided. The transistor switching sections is serially connected between a corresponding one of the pair of input terminals and the output terminal. A logic network is provided for operating the switching sections to prevent current passing into one of the pair of input terminals from one of the power busses from passing into the other one of the power buses. The logic section operates the switching sections to prevent current from one of the pair of power buses to the one of the input terminals connected thereto from exceeding a predetermined value, and operates the switching sections to prevent a difference between a voltage at one of the input terminals and a voltage at the other one of the input terminals from exceeding a predetermined value.

Dual power bus data storage system

The invention is directed to techniques for dampening vibration of a disk drive using a dampening member which is co-planar with a mid-plane of the disk drive, and which has at least a portion extending from a carrier toward a main assembly when the carrier is installed within the main assembly in order to dampen vibration of the disk drive when the disk drive is in operation. The use of the dampening member in this location results in vibration dampening which is superior to conventional disk drive mechanisms. In particular, since the dampening member is co-planar with the mid-plane of the disk drive, the dampening member dampens vibration along a critical direction providing substantial vibration isolation. Accordingly, disk drives configured in accordance with the invention are capable of providing high performance even in high rotation speed (i.e., high RPM) and high density configurations.

Methods and apparatus for dampening vibration of a disk drive

The invention is directed to techniques for cooling a disk drive using a louver to direct air from an air stream toward the disk drive. One arrangement is directed to a storage system which includes a cabinet assembly, and a fan assembly that provides an air stream through the cabinet assembly. The storage system further includes a disk drive assembly that fastens to the cabinet assembly. The disk drive assembly includes (i) a disk drive that stores and retrieves computerized data, and (ii) a support member that supports the disk drive. The support member defines an input louver that redirects air from the air stream toward the disk drive of the disk drive assembly. This arrangement enables forced convection air to adequately cool the disk drive thus reducing disk drive operating temperature and lowering the disk drive failure rate. This lowering of the failure rate translates into improved field reliability and lower repair costs. In one arrangement, the support member includes highly stiff material (e.g., sheet metal) which provides adequate stiffness to support the disk drive and allows (i) high convective cooling on both sides of the disk drive and (ii) low air impedance (i.e., pressure drop). In one arrangement, a louvered side of the support member directs air over a disk spindle bearing of the disk drive which is a substantial source of heat. In one arrangement, the support member acts as a cover to protect circuit board components against inadvertent handling that could damage the components.
