An operation management server that manages a storage apparatus in which volumes are included and data is sent and received via transmission resources is provided. The operation management server includes a setting unit that sets a target value of the performance to some or all of the volumes; a monitoring unit that monitors the load factor of the transmission resources; and a bandwidth management unit that specifies a target transmission resource on the basis of the load factor of the transmission resources, that decides, on the basis of the target value, bandwidth allocation of some of the volumes that use the specified transmission resource, and that instructs a bandwidth control unit in the storage apparatus to adjust the bandwidth on the basis of the decided bandwidth allocation.

A network management apparatus includes a first storage unit, a second storage unit, and a controller. The first storage unit stores therein communication groups included in the same subnet and information about communication devices belonging to the respective communication groups in association with each other. The second storage unit stores therein for each of the communication devices a port of a relaying device connected to the communication device as a connection destination port. The controller allows the relaying devices to perform communication between the connection destination ports on the basis of the first storage unit and the second storage unit to allow communication only between the communication devices belonging to the same communication group.

A managed server (srv-10) is powered on by a power controlling unit. The managed server executes a POST process, and transfers a PXE request to a boot controlling unit. The boot controlling unit transfers an HBA vendor determining program. In the managed server, the WWN is set by an HBA vendor-dedicated program corresponding to an HBA vendor, and when a PCI initialization code can not be loaded, the POST process is re-started, and the PXE request is transferred again. The boot controlling unit transfers an NOP program, and the managed server starts an OS with a SAN boot.

When information on a device such as a server, storage, and an FC switch constituting a SNA system is input, these devices are displayed and arranged properly on a screen (S, S). When information on a physical path is input by a designer by using this display screen, a virtual SAN system in which the devices are connected by a fiber channel is displayed on the screen (S). Furthermore, when information on an access path is input by the designer by using the construction image, the access path is additionally displayed on the construction image of the virtual SAN system (S). Since the construction image of the virtual SAN system is displayed on the screen, the designer can easily create a design drawing while visually checking the SAN system. This can reduce the work load and time required for construction of the SAN system.

An input/output request sent from a host is once cued through a channel adapter and is then transferred to a resource manager and is cued, and the cuing is distributed. Even if a difference in a channel transfer rate is made between the host and the device controller, a higher transfer rate can be maintained.

An integrated management mechanism of a storage area network (SAN) integrates and manages a traditionally dispersed security system from a single source and automates security management in the SAN. An access path on the integrated management mechanism, including a region of the storage devices to which access is attempted from the host computer, the fiber channel adapters used when accessing that storage, and the host bus adapters (HBA) are configured. Based on the access path information configured, the integrated management mechanism establishes respective storage settings, zoning settings, and accessible region permissions for a SAN management mechanism of the host computer, a zoning settings mechanism of the switch, and a storage management mechanism of the storage device.

Operation of a path employing a channel adapter is caused to stop, and, also, identification information is determined, concerning said channel adapter, comprising the device information and component exchange-unit information, to the other multi-path control parts of their own apparatus and/or the multi-path control parts of the other apparatuses, when a request of exchanging said channel adapter is given.

A disc array device for maintaining consistency of data. When write processing is interrupted and then restarted, new data may be stored in a nonvolatile memory and regeneration of parity may be impossible because data can not be read out normally from a disc device other than a disc device in which new data is to be written and a disk device for parity. In such a case, a special write executing unit overwrites the new data stored in the nonvolatile memory at a specified write position of the disk device in which new data is to be written.

In a device array system, a failure alternate device is fetched from another logic group of a higher redundancy without needing a hot spare patrol, accordingly recovering redundancy of data. In a case corresponding to a mirrored device of RAID-1, as a logic group of a device array unit, a construction control unit constructs a first logic group in which the same data is stored into (N=2) devices and duplicated and a second logic group in which the same data is stored into (N+1=3) devices and triplicated. when one device has failed in the first logic group having a lower redundancy and the redundancy is lost, a failure processing unit fetches one device from the second logic group of a higher redundancy into the first logic group and reconstructs data by using the fetched device as a failure alternate device, accordingly recovering the redundancy of the first logic group.
