Computer-implemented methods and systems are provided for curating medical images for a medical image database. An example method for curating involves operating a processor to obtain a query medical image, assign the query medical image to an initial set of related images, and generate a similarity indicator for each image of the initial set. The similarity indicator is representative of a measure of similarity between image data of that image and the initial set. The processor is operable to define an intermediate set from the initial set based on the similarity indicators; and generate a relevancy indicator for each image of the intermediate set. The relevancy indicator is representative of a measure of the relevancy between relevance of the image and the intermediate set. The processor is operable to define a curated set of images from the intermediate set based on the relevancy indicators.

Systems and methods for automatically managing image data

Various image diagnostic systems, and methods of operating thereof, are disclosed herein. Example embodiments relate to operating the image diagnostic system to identify one or more tissue types within an image patch according to a hierarchical histological taxonomy, identifying an image patch associated with normal tissue, generating a pixel-level segmented image patch for an image patch, generating an encoded image patch for an image patch of at least one tissue, searching for one or more histopathological images, and assigning an image patch to one or more pathological cases.

Image diagnostic system, and methods of operating thereof

Computer-implemented methods and systems are provided for generating encoded representations for multiple magnifications of one or more query images. An example method for involves operating a processor to obtain a query image and identify a set of anchor points within the query image. The processor is operable to generate a plurality of sub-images for a plurality of magnification levels for each anchor point. Each sub-image includes the anchor point and corresponds to a magnification level of the plurality of magnification levels. The processor is operable to, for each magnification level, apply an artificial neural network model to a group of sub-images having that magnification level to extract a feature vector representative of image characteristics of the query image at that magnification level; and to generate an encoded representation for multiple magnifications of the query image based on the feature vectors extracted for the plurality of magnification levels.

Systems and methods for generating encoded representations for multiple magnifications of image data

Computer-implemented methods and systems are provided for managing one or more images. An example method for indexing involves operating a processor to, divide an image portion of an image of the one or more images into a plurality of patches, for each patch of the image: detect one or more features of the patch; and assign the patch to at least one cluster of a plurality of clusters of the image, based on the one or more features of the patch. The processor is operable to, for each cluster of the image, select at least one patch from the cluster as at least one representative patch for the cluster; for each representative patch, generate an encoded representation based on one or more features of the representative patch; and generate an index identifier for the image based on the encoded representations of the representative patches of the image.

Systems and methods of managing medical images

According to one aspect, an instrument for scanning a specimen. The instrument includes a scanning stage for supporting the specimen, a detector having a plurality of pixels, the scanning stage and the detector movable relative to each other to move the specimen in a scan direction during a scan, and a pulsed illumination source synchronized with the motion of the specimen on the scanning stage. At least some of the pixels of the detector are operable to collect light emitted from the specimen during the scan due to the pulsed illumination source and generate corresponding image data. The instrument may further include a processor operable to perform MSIA on the image data to generate an image of the specimen.

According to some examples, an instrument for scanning a specimen on a specimen holder. The instrument includes a scanning stage for supporting the specimen, and a detector having a plurality of pixels. The scanning stage and the detector are movable relative to each other to move the specimen in a scan direction during a scan. At least some of the pixels of the detector are operable to collect light from different depths inside the specimen during the scan and generate corresponding image data. The instrument also includes a processor operable to perform MSIA on the image data to generate a 3D image of the specimen.

A preview station for previewing microscope slides where each slide has one or more specimens thereon, the preview station having a tray holder supporting a slide tray with a plurality of slides thereon. A digital camera and lens is located on an optical axis relative to the slide tray and a light source illuminates the slide tray. The camera is activated to image each slide in the slide tray and has a memory to store and transmit data from each slide. The preview station can be used in combination with a scanning system and can be made part of a scanning system.

An instrument and method for scanning all or part of a large specimen mounted on a specimen holder takes a plurality of measurements of each pixel in the whole or part of the specimen being scanned at a plurality of exposure values. A computer controls the movement of the specimen holder during scanning and again of the detector to produce a digitized image of all or part of the specimen with larger dynamic range than the dynamic range of the detection system. In a further embodiment, the instrument can scan two successive, identical strips at a different exposure values and combine the images from the two scans into one digitized image having a larger dynamic range than the dynamic range of the detection system.

An instrument and method for scanning a large microscope specimen uses a light source and at least one lens to focus light from the specimen onto a detector array. The specimen holder is located on a scanning stage and the detector array is dynamically tilted about a scan direction during the scan to maintain focus across the width of the scan strip as the scan proceeds. A degree of tilt varies during the scan as is required to maintain lateral focus relative to the detector array.
