In some implementations, a user device (e.g., a computing device) can perform client-side personalization of search results. For example, a computing device can obtain search results matching user specified search parameters from a server device and/or from various services on the user device. The user device can score the search results based on various search result item attributes. After scoring, the user device can promote or demote search results items based on whether the search results item is relevant to recent user behavior. The promotion and/or demotion of search results items can cause search results items scores to be adjusted to generate a personalized score for each search result. The search results can then be ordered and/or presented based on the personalized score for each search results item. When presenting search results items, the user device can present information indicative of the source of the search results items.

Client-side personalization of search results

A device implementing a system for providing search results includes at least one processor configured to receive plural terms corresponding to a map-based search query, determine plural interpretations of the map-based search query, each interpretation based on a respective combination of tagging one or more of the plural terms as at least one of a first type, a second type or a third type. The at least one processor is configured to, for each interpretation, determine a set of weight values for the interpretation, based on at least one of context data of the device or a feature of the respective combination, and to assign a score for the interpretation based on the set of weight values for the interpretation. The at least one processor is configured to provide at least one completion suggestion or search result based on the plural interpretations and on the assigned scores.

A route-biased search in a mobile navigation system locates points of interest (POI) on or convenient to a mobile user's current travel. The route-biased search operates in two modes, navigation and non-navigation. The navigation mode identifies the most convenient POIs that honor the mobile user's route to their destination. The non-navigation mode identifies the most convenient POIs that are located ahead of the user based on the user's inferred direction of travel. The route-biased search determines the best possible routes to the identified POIs taking into account the impact of the detour costs of traveling to the POI along with other ranking factors.
